@ Korvacs - Well first off, had your initial post been in the manner of that last post, my bitch switch would have never flipped. Your first comment was responded to cordially, by both emme and myself. But then you pressed on, and included your perception of emme, which is negative. I don't need to know why, and im not here to change your mind - but there is a group of players here who have taken numerous occasions to 'enlighten' me with their perception of emme...in just about every thread i start, except this one, until now. What i will say is he (Emme) was the first person to approach me, the first person to help me try to code for myself, the first person i had a relationship with here, the first person to ask me to team and treat me like a peer. Mind you this was after about 1 month of posting asking to be part of a team, with no responses from anyone else here at epvp, everyone was 'too busy' . He's been in the same team as me for 5 months or more now (i've kinda lost count), he hasn't leaked anything, he tries very hard..daily, he has a great sense of humor within the team and makes us all LOAO. In short - he may not be the best coder here (he has never claimed to be), but i and the team have found his effort and personality genuine. He cares about this project as much as the rest of us. That's all i will say about this. Please ppl if you have issues with members of the team I'm in, keep it to yourself, or if you think there is something i need to know, PM it. Let's show some tact.

The rest of your thread i will address out of order if you don't mind.

I posted a link to our forum only recently, even tho we had our link back to epvp from the get-go, because we weren't ready to entertain throngs of ppl coming asking when the server would be ready. we're close to alpha now, 5183+, so i've begun to post links. Also had to get a link that wouldn't be blocked by epvp, since they censor our free forum URL. I did not mean to go off topic with that, but many ppl were still pming me asking to team, i wanted to clarify that i was now in a project for those who might not have known.

I don't believe any of this work i've done is a waste of time. There are a few elements, such as the flash intro (totally redone within FL CS4, AE CS4, and PS), that when we do go proprietary will fall to the wayside. But it is an insignificant amount of the totality of work being done (the intro was meh...2 hours), and taking this step gets us out quickly as a very unique psrvr, doing some things no other server has done or is doing. We're totally aware of the issues surrounding psrvrs, and have had numerous meetings concerning the approach we'll need to have. Do we know it all, ofc not. But we're well aware and have many friends and team members even, who have received C&D's for various projects they created.

I think that covers everything except the why...which has 2 reasons i'm guessing, speaking for myself anyway. One reason is because we can, and we loved co, in our time, and felt that many of the changes they made could be undone and repackaged in a way that appealed to us. Will everyone like it? i doubt it, it will be kinda hard core RPG, realistic japanese themed and designed. There will not be any bulking or DB purchasing allowed. This will be a hard core lvling/domestic only server. We'll offer unique vanity items for ppl who wish to donate. The unique items are 3D creations from scratch by our team. I believe this in some way puts us 'close' to fair use in the states, in that we're accepting donations for our own creations, not TQ content, and this really puts us at the next reason. Education. There are still tons of things i do not fully understand about game creation (speaking for myself again), this has been an experience worth its weight in gold as we learn from the engine, the client, and each other, not to mention the friendships that have been made between us all. I've already written a book here so i'll cut it short.

Btw, that compliment means alot coming from you, you were the first person i looked up to here in 06. Sry if we managed to get off on the wrong foot.

Actually, we team'd up for a bit in late 2007/early 2008, splitted for a bit and got brought together by Grant and been on the same project since.

So, almost two years.. two years too many..

Those edits are just extraordinary.

However, graphical interfaces won't cut the job on their own, there needs to be good and efficient code in there, something I KNOW Emme is incapable of.

We have 2 roads we could follow for long term dev, but atm we keep those roads side by side, switching back and fourth quite seamlessly. Not one ounce of this work will be wasted, not that it is ANY concern of yours. I'll ask you again to refrain from expressing an opinion on anything expect the quality of the art. This is not a debate about psrvrs ethics or implementation, client delivery, or whether you think emme is good for me to work with, or any of the other topics you may feel inclined to bring up, or are unable to control the expression of publicly thru the discipline of self-restraint.

@Falcon - I appreciate the compliment, and i understand your concern. Emme is not the only coder on this team, tho he is very productive and is constantly contributing solidly to this servers creation, not only with code but also with gameplay ideas which are perfectly in tune with the approach of this server. I wont make this a who's who of our team and it's contributors, but i will say many of the best coders and client modders in the epvp community have had their hands in this helping us, presently and in the past. Many ppl like what we are attempting to do and offer help just to be a part of what is a great team to belong to. I'm personally very proud of each and every member who has ever helped us, as well as grateful. If i was to list everyone who has contributed it would be a list at least 20 deep. We're not shy about working with others =p

I'm sorry you don't like Emme or that your experience with him hasn't been like my own, but trust me, it is your loss. He's a great guy to know. just mho.

@ Tao, he was responding, very politely i might add (in his first response anyway), to Korvacs concern about our use of time, energy and our understanding of our legal position. Honestly i don't care about being on or off topic, i like to shoot the shit as much as the next guy, and hits on my thread are hits on my thread yeah? But i'm just tired of the "Anti Emme Welcoming Committee". I remember distinctly being told by a number of ppl, Hybrid included, that they were too busy to work with me. That's cool, i got no hard feelings in anyway, i understand that perfectly. But once i teamed with emme, the "Anti Emme Brigade" always had something to say, some advice to offer, some drama to inject, and in some cases - plans of attack against our server. One person even said "Well i would have worked with you but now you're working with emme"!

Well when?! I was trying to form/join a team for at least a month with no success, at all, nada, nothing, zipola. I felt like a leper.

Look i know some of you don't like emme, or feel the need to act like you don't like emme. That's fine. I'm not here to tell you to like him, or to be honest publicly about liking him, or whatever trip may be goin on with each case individually. I like him, regardless of what anyone else is going to say, for all the reasons i posted above. That's really all I'm going to say about this. I like you tao. I'm not here to get into a pissing contest over anything. You know who else is working on or has worked on this server. Emme is part of a team, and makes mistakes - just like we all do. The team helps you catch things and make adjustments. We are all learning on our own levels.

If i was to have one critical thought to express it would be this. For everyone who is knocking emme and his lack of ability, you should realize that coding your own server in c# is prolly not the best option for any of you, and the fact that you make the choice to use what is an inferior language to create your projects in shows either highly specialized knowledge of the language (this is true in a few cases), or lack of experience (or an unwillingness to learn additional material). I don't know alot about code, but i do know that C++ is 'industry standard'.

Edit - I'm just gonna put this out there. Those of you that feel like this project may suffer on some level, and are driven to speak publicly about your concerns, and think that we could use your help and expertise, feel free to contact me or any other team member. Does it mean working on/with a team with Emme? Yes. Does it mean working on/with a team who is doing extraordinary things to this platform? Yes. Think about it with no ego for a moment, with no bias towards individual perception of who you are supposed to be or supposed to like. This is a great team, which has developed close personal ties thru shared time, effort and hardships. We have each others back...and that is a hard thing to find.

I know ya'll love me very very much, especially you who don't know **** about me or have seen my codes the past year (lol?), but stop talking about other stuffs in here, seriously.

This thread was made by Dan (Zatoichi) about his edits and the privateserver he is working on. How the team is going to protect this, how the team is going to protect themself again C&D is relevant questions, but not who qualifies for the team or who can code what, seriously.

Add a picture where they can see how bracelet/boots/headgear actually shows on the character. Great work!

They should be able to see some of it. The shaolin are shown wearing the bracelets that give them new animations of martial arts while fighting. They are like any other weapon, but obviously show on the wrist. If you look you can see the shadow from the overhead global light respects the mesh, and shows the object in its shadow. I had heard there was a debate about this before. If all you do is .dds edit, the object will still show the shadow of it's original mesh, because the mesh contains the properties to block and react to in game light sources. When you edit/create .c3 files, they act accordingly. This can also be seen in the shadow of the Kabuto helmet for the samurai, the shadow reveals the horns on the front of the helm. You can check out our forum for other weapon and deco developments. It's in my sig. Sir Magus has a thread here as well with his own developments for this project, and a few courtesy downloads for items we're not using in this project. Plank and Nails FTW! XD

i love the new maps!! But could you tell me wich Flash file you edit to edit the background?

Anyways, i wish you goooooooood luck with the new game ;-) (i prefer not to say private server :P)
but just to be a bit negative... There is two ways this project might end:

1. The team suddenly splitts apart because of school, work or other reasons...
2. The project becomes so big that TQ sues you. If you do not rebuild the whole client :P

Also, I prefer to call it a game aswell although it is a heavily modified privateserver who doesn't follow TQ's gameplay.

We are busy with school and work, ofcourse, but we are trying as best as we can. Actually, we help eachother with real life stuff, as I helped another coder with the scandinavian mytology, and Dan helped me today with an english assignment, etc etc.

This also means we get done faster with our real life stuff and have more time working on the server.
As you can tell this team is very very close, real close, I believe we are the only team that has a band like this.

Also, if you don't mind me saying, I love when people comment the server and wait for the release of it, it really drives me forward as a coder.

Thanks Hokage. It's the start.dat file in your data/main directory. To edit it you'll need to make a copy of it, rename the extension to 'swf' and then decompile the flash into its elements, many ppl use SOTHINK to do this. From there you can replace the images in use.

And yeah, we'll be starting out as a psrvr of sorts, but we'll grow and change. I don't think the team will 'break apart'. Ppl ofc need to take breaks for life, and i myself was offline for more than a few weeks while the US recession took a bit out of my wallet. We all like each other, and understand the demands life puts on everyone of almost any age. And it can cause burn out, to be on a long project. So we keep each others spirits up and take breaks when necessary. But we all wanna do the same thing, so we return as soon as we can.

Will they C&D us (Cease and Desist)? I'm sure they will want to....
