if the files get released, i'd say that 70% from this forum would set up a server and 60% would be a totally fail, but in 2 or maybe 3 weeks there would be lots of good servers with high/low rates, p2p or free-silk , etc etc

ehm.. If someone will relase it to public and joymax will find out who do this. That person will spend alot days in jail , and paying rest of his life to joymax company(for company damages because of relasing that files). Emulation its a future of private servers for now.Peoples should be focused on writing good emulators, not on waiting for server files. For now i am sad because there is no competition(except esro) for my emulator, what is a reason ?.Everyone want everything for free and without doing anything..

Except, as a person who is presently violating the GPL, I don't think you're one to discuss what is and isn't legal. And as for competition, you'll find what you have is beyond outdated and by all decent standards, roughly 10% complete. Enjoy bragging about a GPL violating incomplete ripoff that still manages to top the charts in bugginess, even making Windows ME look like angelic software.

yeah thats true. but it wont help either...coders are "in bad conflict with each other", everyone wants to rule the world with HIS OWN emulator. instead they could code one and thats good!
If they would stick together and forget other things and accept each other they could coded emulators like WOW, Aion has... But 65% of silkroad world wide comunity is lazy kiddos with no life and they only live for stupid game + 40% of them are turks.
Also inspiration isnt enough you need to be talented! Thats important too.
For a good begining they've should pick the code for emulator...
About free thing...Why it shouldn't be free? I know its hard to make something and get nothing for it...Like it happened to Shadowz75 who published source & stuff then some other people added some more stuff and they took it for themselves...THATS NOT RIGHT....
I dont know what else to say -.- Everything is just another EPIC FAIL :/ sadly its true

if you want something for free do it by yourself. Try go to the shop and takes something for free .Peoples work costs . when you will be enought mature and you will go to work you will understand noone works for free.About shadowz75. he made it for fun .He quit when he discover how hard its make real server.
All peoples are give up because its alot of time needed to finish emu. I need 2 more years to finish even i am currently best sro emu coder and i have almost 3 years of expirience(i am coding every day), think about it.

I'm not sure about the real consumption of the files. Nobody knows except the people who really own them.
but i didn't have any problems loading those leaked files with an amount of 2 gigs

Actually, I was pretty sure it couldn't stand a 4GB dedicated server.
but now that I think about it, let's say there's a full server, each player has loads of values stored dynamically in the RAM.
of course it comes and goes, but think about the common values, such as stats, items, monsters, locations etc etc.
you need 1,048,576 bytes to get only 1MB RAM wasted.
1,000-3,000 players, all together, will cover a lot, but surely not 1,048,576 bytes x 4,000 times.
not as long as the largest supported value in SRO, for one variable, is QWord (8-Bytes).
Now, running a server seems a lot more fun and cheap, hehe, I didn't think of that before

you may have a point, guess we will have to wait
i think if they are released, nobody will be stupid enough to upload it without being behind a proxy or VPN

If the server is 32bit, it will only be able to address 2 GB of memory. Pretty sure they are. Hosting a server is hardly cheap. If you're hosting it on your home connection or your personal PC, you're just going to **** off people due to many factors, consumer grade network tiers and a desktop OS aren't meant to be running dedicated performance critical software nor hosting anything as such.
Also, the official servers are probably using close to 200-400K in memory per user. As for concurrency, their code blows, I wouldn't host leaked files for the sake of my CPU.
