Ranking table of most active DO servers!

I wanted to make a comparison between how active one server is vs another. It is impossible to track how many people actually play each server regularly, so I came up with something that should hopefully give a good approximation, I will take the RPTS of each player lowest down on the leaderboard (player#9), this should remove some of the outliers that #1-3 has.
Could you guys let me know if this approximation is accurate?

I'll define population density=(RPTS of #9 of any given server)/(RPTS of #9 of the best server)

EDIT: I am aware that this is not necessarily an accurate reflection of how active the servers are, but at the very least it gives you an indication of how difficult it is to make the top 10 leaderboard on that server. You'll have to live with this data until somebody comes up with something better!

Mexico1 is pretty active; plenty of noobs and hunters per map depending on the hour. You can't even cube solo

I don't think it was the good way : top9 of a newest serv than Ger1 can't have same amount of RPTS than top9 Ger1 (~all the time)
The only way it's to compare the night (00h - 5h for exemple) and the day when all people can play.

For exemple, i play Mx1 the night and i can't make cub alone : always hunter or people who shoot my cub
When i play the day, it's worse.
In Fr2, i make cub in 1-6 2-6 3-6 without many problem the day.
Sk1 : when i try to hunt, no one are on the map

You have to think that top peoples makes gates, gates and gates for rpts.

take the table top9 of mex1/fr2. fr2 destroy it but there is no one in the map.

Go in GA1 and play mmo, for you the serv is much more active than playing vru and see no one in other map than vru

We just need this ******* count like old time

It is not really true, how can ga1 be less active than eg7 ?
I have played on both of these servers...

Mexico 1 is very active and has a lot of population, Germany 6 and Germany 7 should be after place 40 ! ( I play on these servers.)

Good try , but for example Germany 5 is pretty dead besides some people who have their UVE accounts from DO's more glorious days and dont stop because of the ranking. (I feel this applys to all GER Servers except 7 and maybe 6 ). I don't think that your Algorythm gives any accurate data, but maybe we should start a community poll where people can exchange their experiences with server activity, maybe even find heplful people to play with, ect.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback! I am aware this method also has it's flaws, but at the very least it should give an indication of how easy it is to get onto the leaderboards.

Does anybody have any further suggestions on how to improve this? Typing /users is an idea, but this also varies massively (I think) with time.
Please also bear in mind that every data point involves logging into 58 different servers, so I'd like to avoid repeat measurements!

I think such a table is pretty important, especially when people want to buy or start new accounts and want to have an indication of how 'dead' it is.

It's a weird compare. Some of these server are existing far longer than others. You should take this into account!

As far as I am aware, there hasn't been any new servers added for a few years. I believe that GE7 is the newest server (apart from br2 which requires a brazilian IP to see), which is fairly high up so I don't think makes much of a difference.

The only way i see for getting data on the server activity would be scanning the 100 "top user" ranking pages on every server instance and save the results into a database..

After a few days one should be able to see movement in the top 10.000 and could thereby decide how many of the top 10k of every server are still playing?
(Its a lot of data though.. after 2 full info reading cycles you would be at around 10k players/server * ~58 server instances * 2 search cycles = 1160000 entries. depends on how the sql tables are designed though)

Reading "/users" in the chat isn't a good choice because you have a big unknown percentage of "players playing with chat enabled" vs "players playing without chat enabled". If i may say so.


Your calculation above might help a "server age" nerf variable?

I wonder if there is a tool somebody/I could make that can find this data? Or can I access this directly from a database?

I have actually been working on a small project that gathers online data on all servers, based on the amount of users online in the chat which, as already mentioned, might not be exact. I don't know how many actually does completely disable the chat in the settings, but I would think most people would just minimize it when not needed which will still keep you connected.

Here's a little preview of it with some data from today:

GE1 is missing but that server will be added too

Of course that is only a small amount of data which could also change from day to day, but after it has been running for a longer period of time it should be able to give a more precise estimate.
