i believe you were never thrown in the real world yet.. If you discover a something, even though anyone else could do it if they had the working neuron for it, why would you not create a niche from it and mark your income? Why would you even think of creating competition for yourself just for the kicks of having to better your tool?

Yea, you're right. I left this community to make money from another community I developed open source for. Sorry, but my projects for the other game I work on were open source that brought every pserver up to the 'official' version and beyond. Anything else worked on there is truly custom and unique and is worth making money off of, while generally anything in CO that is desired is something that has to do with getting to the point of being able to function similar to official. You're comparing apples and oranges. My current work on another game is 100% custom. Angelius is asking about something core to CO. Please learn what you're talking about before looking like a dumbass.

I see too many "na na na na na I have this information" posts on here.

Also, 'anyone else could do it' is not quite the proper way to describe it. It requires a very specific knowledge set to determine the specifics about these sorts of things.

AND, a lack of competition in RL doesn't make it a the way it should be. Just because people are greedy and selfish in real life doesn't mean they should be here. Does it really make it ok because large corporations do it? That IS why monopoly laws exist: to protect the consumer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everyone here is greedy and selfish, I'm just saying a lot of the comments make it appear that way.



edit: Maybe something to elaborate, if I had the asm knowledge enough to learn exactly what I needed in CO, I'd release everything I could find out. Why? Because I know I'd make either the superior product, or learn to do it better.

Your hard work which you profit from and justify is no different from Hybrids hard work which he profits from, its completely irrelevant if the work has previously shared or not, you have both put a vast amount of hard work into it, and you both wish to profit from it.

Angelious wishes to replicate Hybrids hard work, and hes more than welcome to do that provided he also puts the hard work in, much in the same way that someone is more than welcome to replicate your hard work, provided they can put the effort in.

There is no difference, there is no line where it goes from being acceptable to not being acceptable, you want the knowledge then you have to work for it.

Go back to the other community where you actually contribute and people actually give a ****.

Nothing in this thread has helped Angelius. Every post has been about who knows what and won't help, or telling him to figure it out himself, or arguing about such.

There is a difference though. Perhaps knowing a bit about my C++ start will understand exactly why I feel the way I do. My first dive into C++ was figuring out how a leaked 2-3 year old official source could be used to be current. That was my first time ever looking at C++, and of everyone in the massive community, I was the only person to look at it because of its age. I found out that the only reason you couldn't use the latest official client on it was because of a 2 byte offset in the value right before the map name. Adding 2 bytes there, even if full of junk data, caused almost the entire thing to function. Amazing that no one had tried that prior, but hell, I figured it out and thus, starts my open source public development team. Now, every server out there runs off a base of my team's source. You didn't see me try to hide that information or try to profit off of it. What good would that do? Have the only pserver up and then what, have it go stale because of no competition and no reason to make it better? So what if I could have made loads of money? I don't code for $$, I code because I ENJOY it. If $$ comes in because of it, then fucking hell, I love my work even more. While I can be motivated by $$, my real motivation is learning and coding. Maybe I'm one of the few people here who is like that.

Also, now that every pserver in that other game runs a copy of source that almost perfectly matches official, anything made extra is just that, extra, and is up to the creator whether it is public or not. That'd be comparable to adding an entirely new feature to a CO pserver and keeping it private, not making a pserver in general, or learning about a specific functionality of the CO client. Like I said, if I knew it all about CO, it'd be in a huge post with much detail.

Really? I thought that post was very useful. It basically implied: don't get your hopes up waiting around for someone to come a long and say "hey this is how you do it". Instead, go back to your work because at very best you'll get someone who's interested in your work and would like to also work on it with you -- not somebody who's figured it out.

Hybrid has a point, instead of him getting his hopes up and waiting for someone with the knowledge to post it, he told him right at the beginning to not expect anything and give up the waiting. This way he doesn't need to wait for something that will never happen in other words save time.

I tried not to connect to the antibot server at all and sent me str8 to bot jail after like 30 min, then i started to count how many times the client tries to to connect to the antibot server and it didn't give any static number of connect times it ends at 9 to 15 tries and then it suddenly stops and nothing is sent back to the server...

Well im like 100% sure that client never responds back or sends anything to the antibot server...

Its more like the client is waiting for a certain value to be received from the server to stop the connecting attempts

I don't see me posting a leeched code snippet and asking people to explain what it does or fix it up for me... yet no one posted anything helpful and i'm starting to think more like no one has a proper answer... this thread is all about arguing and attacking each other...

Regardless of the intention you had posting it, all it achieved was making others feel bad about it. Look at the replies to that post. Obviously the message was lost in the way you constructed it. The only thing I get from your post is a list of people who are elite, and that they won't give anything. The post was outright not useful.

atm we're not sending anything and we have no problems. Once you have one successful session, you don't need to ever connect again, a successful session looks like:
S->C
C->S
S->C

inb4 bone-you asks omg why are you helping him now?? Telling him this makes no difference. It takes two seconds to figure out on your own once you know all the pieces. Any thread bone-you posts in becomes a blood-bath it's a reoccurring trend, you should've noticed this by now. I have the new stuff reversed but they're yet to put it into effect yet for me to test it out -- it's not very different from the old stuff so anything you've already reversed is likely still valid except for maybe a few constants.

On point 2, only because I call people out for doing 1. If I was still a mod I'd have deleted posts like that because they serve no purpose to the community except to degrade it. Also, the recurring trend is with me and people who go around bragging, instigating, or just plain talking ****. Honestly, the only things that should be posted here are straight contributions, or questions. There shouldn't be any "look at what we have that you can't have" or anything even remotely similar.
