You could likely remove/alter the image without a problem but the actual code to display the window would likely still be triggered.

I haven't done much with visual conquer mods but you'd simply be overwriting the texture. It wouldn't change any of the game code so you're still gonna be opening the window even if you make the button transparent.

You're correct. As pro4never said you cannot just simply remove the image you'll need to OllyDbg the code out that draws the window.

Olly for a clean job. Else, you could try with ResHacker to move the object way out of the screen, so, it will still be draw, but outside of the screen.

I've done this before, but it's not easy. Here's some general advice. Search for the file name of the arena image and set a breakpoint on the instruction that references it. Then when that breakpoint is hit, trace back call after call after call and find the initial MFC drawing setup call in the main executable and nop it. The reason why you have to trace back so far is because there are like 20 individual calls to set up the drawing specifications - as in, size, position, etc. Yes, it's extremely time consuming and requires a bit of trial and error to find the right call.

Why not downgrade the source to 5165 or simply not implement the arena?
