ALL ZE INTERNETS!!!
Discounting the whole "rah rah private encryption" issue for a second... Poker is a prime example of the same problem.
Poker has been in the client for ages, it's been a very marketable feature (look at server advertisements... so many claiming to have poker and I've yet to see one properly implement it... or even make a working system).
I'm fairly sure that after all these months, hellmouth and albetros sources are still the ONLY public references to the poker system out there... and they are far from complete/just some packet structures I was playing around with.
Hell it took me almost two days of ******** around to finally realize that TQ uses seatID rather then characterUID to control poker actions... Yet no one was willing to work on poker with me simply because they didn't want to help me finish it up and wanted it only on their own server.
Instead they could have written the entire system, had a fully working poker system and focused on OTHER features to make their server unique and popular while fleshing out rather large and difficult game systems in a fraction of the time.
Note: I'm almost as guilty here.. I wasn't exactly screaming my poker knowledge at the top of my lungs but I WAS looking for someone to partner with to finish up the system... I was like 2 sequences away from having a working prototype of the system... Hell I've yet to see someone go further with it to this day.

I agree with Yuki about the Korvacs deal as well. I am glad that you seem to think you are the light of our community. Rather, I pity that you have a slight problem of believing your solution(s) are always better than others. I am in no way demeaning you, I know you are wise around this subject, but I seem to always want to slit my eyes when I see you reply on a thread. You were okay being a mod, but now nothing reaches your standards.
I also agree with the OP. I've made a thread exact to this about 2 years ago, and was called a qq'er for it. I can take time into a fourth dimension of my stay at epvpers, it's rather a large memory of where our community once was and where it now stands. (And no original guys, I'm not saying I was there with you) Just when the private server scene became somewhat large and new members appeared here daily. 2 years ago, people were actually rather happy to release things, mostly for other leaked/released sources, just because rather than having a greatly added to/still ****** server, their reputation as coders strengthened. People would look to them in times of error. But now the community has derailed, and requesting is all you see. Nostalgic isn't it?
(And no I'm not saying I'm a great part of this community, so shut the **** up if you intend to criticize what I just said/ I'm giving an opinion)

You do realize that the most important part/the hardest part is finding the winner yes?
The only thing the poker system in my server was missing is a hand evaluator to find who is the winner of this hand. Other then that i coded the whole system

I had worked out the hand evaluator although not implemented it due to the first sequence i was missing.
Dealing cards. I could manage turns and everything as well as blinds and user options but for some reason I could never display your cards.
For the record, my post was not me being all cocky, it was simply bringing up a prime example of where no one is willing to work together on a system and all it does is hurts everyone involved.
My server didn't have poker, yours didn't and countless others didn't all because no one was willing to work together to put the pieces together (we all have different pieces of that puzzle and basically all of them are accounted for if all combined)

This thread gave me a chance to tell my words about it. The only chance for CO community to survive is building a side-community, something like a big dev team. Each project gonna be open source, people at that community will be trusted. Projects will be under the community's name as a dev team.
CO community don't have a chance to survive at Epvp.
'Nuff said, I guess.

Lets say you are a member of that team, why would you do what you just suggested?
It's just a question so don't flame me

Iam not qualified yet to be part of this. All what i can do atm is helping with Ideas.
If this kind of a team raised up, is like building another TQ, and maybe a new game, who knows.
Ikr that this kind of stuff won't come to life because of many reasons, selfish act, cocky people and hate. But if something like this happened, We may see stuff.

Sorry I'm late. I got lost in all the flames and potholes. I pretty much read all the lengthy replies, and here's what I think about the situation. I came into the community with a very limited knowledge of java programming. I think all I knew was if-else statements and the style of object oriented programming. NewestCoServer helped me out so much and it was just a crappy, public project. I think people today are scared to release bad, original sources because they don't want to be judged (which is a serious problem in this community because our standards are too high). Leechers will leech, but putting up walls just prevents people from developing their programming style and skills.
What I really want to start up again is an open-source project like what Elite-CoEmu was. It's not much, but Elite-CoEmu was the first and only team I was on. It's where I taught myself about packets and handling with the aid of Tommy and Saint. There's no doubt that the community is going down-hill. With the declining interest of developing a private server, I doubt that such a project would work anymore. I don't see any smart questions being asked. I don't see any smart releases being written, but I guess we're all to blame for that.
Though I don't think releasing the new password encryption is a good idea (keep botting private and limited please), I think releasing examples and sources displaying new coding styles is. I know I'm going to try to make more of an effort this summer, but as I said, it's kind of all of our faults for not encouraging new members they way we should be. You never know who's out there trying to better themselves till you reach out and help them.

If it's such a waste of time you can see your way out. Posts and attitudes like yours are exactly why this community is in the state it's in.
It's cool you have no desire to see this community advance. Unlike you though, others want it to.

lol "you guys". There's like 2 or 3 of us left, and I'm pretty sure none of the others Lv2 had any say in who was removed. I know I didn't. To top it off, why is the tag and name color that big of a deal? The last post there is from 2008. You guys have created your own secluded "keep everything from the public" level anyway. While I'm grateful to have been considered for the Lv2 of CO, I'm glad nothing came of it because it'd have still been the same situation it is now. People keeping things for themselves.
On an unrelated but related note, I've decided to call my project CO++ for obvious reasons and because I really couldn't think of anything else.

Not that this is particularly relevant to the problem, but this is a forum, and in my opinion most of the stuff people post here is badly written (in terms of code), and most of the problems here can be solved by people reading the error messages that they post as a screenshot/video.
Since thats my opinion and this is a forum on the internet, im entitled to post my opinion and tell people how stupid they are for not being able to read "Invalid user Account!!" or "username/password is incorrect!!", in the same way that you are entitled to post your opinion about me.
And with regards to me thinking solutions are better than other peoples, this is true in alot of cases since i actually perform research when i code solutions to problems, and therefore arrive at what can be deemed as one of the best solutions available, which in most cases is better than what has been posted. Sorry if this makes me look like a douché but i could care less.
I dont consider myself to be a shining light, i dont consider myself to be a leader of the community, i dont even consider myself to be, what is most easily described as an elite member of the community. Im just a coder who happens to have been active in the community for a long time, which positions me in such a way so as i can comment on the state of the community as it is now.
Also back to the original point of this topic, i think this should be closed as the only thing this has proved is that Zero is about as in touch with the community as politicians are with their citizens. So this discussion is pointless, as numerous members of the community have now posted and he has just proceeded to get into an argument with all of them, so he is effectively arguing with the community about how the community is.......which kind of demonstrates how in touch he is.
