Dark Whelp Pet

hi all

as you all know, the dark whelp is quite a desireable pet in WoW.

The droprate for the whelp is something like 1/1000 kills. thats a lot of whelps!

However, in the badlands, if you keep an eye out, there is a slightly darker whelp that spawns occasionaly. If you kill him, the chances of the whelp pet dropping are apprently 1/5.

I was lucky enough to notice him, and got my whelp the first time i killed him.

hope this helps. ill be testing this more and report back

I'll search for it tonight... somehow i have the feeling i won't find any "darker" whelp, since while i kill all the whelps i should have hit it at least 10 times, which should result in min. 2 pets, or to be exact after clearing all whelps 5 times u should have at least one -> thats not the case.

where exactly did u see your strange "darker" whelp?

as you approach the whelps, take the right hand path, and near the crystal (which is part of that one quest).

I expect the darker one would prolly be random (about as random as the pet drop itself)

perhaps I was just really lucky. im doing nightly runs of about an hour killing to test further.

Perhaps it was the shadows from the mountains making the whelp appear darker and you were just lucky?

nice information but i thinks fraggy's answer was quiet good there is no "darker" welping... look on pages where you can see all spawn points... there is only one for this red, normal welpings...

i have since been farming them for hours and hours in Wetlands. and nothing.

The first I killed I got the whelp. It is really a rare drop and I was almost thinking of selling the pet but I had a friend log on from school and bind it to me to prevent my self from selling it... Im not regretting my decision... the pet is AWSOME!
