Mining Dark Iron

The guide is pretty easy to use. The hard part is getting the 230 smithing to be able to smith the Dark Iron. You on your own there, but if you have an lvl 60 mage from my previous guide, then it should take a matter of hours. Copper, Incincerite, Iron and Mithril will take you to 230. After that simply follow the coordinates to BRD and hit the ore spawn.

Note the organization. The Ore spawns are broken down into four main areas.

mb - Molten Bridge, 1 ore spawn between the two spots. Sometimes it will be at neither
ring - Ring of Law area, 1-3 ore spots between the points.
hoc - Hall of crafting area, one ore spot in these areas. Sometimes it will be in one of the sections that are too dangerous to get to (no coords listed).
hw - Dark Iron Highway area, 1-4 spots. Always at least one, some are out of each in areas too dangerous (no coords listed).

After a few runs you will get the idea. For example if find ore at 4 - Ring, there is no need to check 5 or 6 since it shares the same spot. Also the ore spawn heavily depending on the time of day. Some spots will not spawn for hours during some times, and spawn constantly at others.

All areas are safe with two exceptions. The last coord before smelt, 10i is not safe. You can not actually mine at 10, but at 10i you can. There is just a slight adjustment between the two coords. This is because if there is no ore at 10i and you teleport there, you are dead. If there is ore, you?re safe. Also one of the hoc coords is not safe, you will take small damage from a thrower (I forget which one it is exactly). Its no big deal, usually you can mine there anyways but be aware of it.

Be sure to wait about 10 seconds for the ore to phase in when you teleport. You will see it in mining radar or see monsters when things have phased in.

Smelting

You need to do a quest to smelt the ore. This is from Gloom'rel in the Hall of Enchantment (right of the mb coords). 20 gold, 10 truesilver and 2 star ruby is what need for it. The Smelt coords is a safe spot to smelt the dark iron.

Safety & the Dark Iron Lifecycle

Some spots I never found a good place to mine but they may be possible. Post them here if you find safe way to mine them. Also I'm sure I missed spots entirely since they are quite easy to miss in a large zone like BRD. Molten Core has some Dark Iron spawns, but I do not recommend it since it is more detectable.

I've been running Dark Iron for about a week with no problems. If a large group is waiting outside BRD for a while and sees you a few times, I suggest kicking back and do something else for a while. You really don't want to be known as the BRD guy.

Obviously if this becomes public quickly, it will be of no use to anyone so keep it to yourself. The market will probably drop pretty damn fast when it is well known so sell it while you can and sell the items you can make with it asap
