[Opinions] Map tightening on a job-based server.
I've been around for a while now and I really don't see any high cap servers that are job-based and I personally tried hosting my own and well I understood why when I did but I still don't really understand how valid my statement could be. Therefore, let's discuss the idea.
A Chinese/Europe server has a pretty huge *** map and gets bigger when going for Cap 110 as you open up Alexandria and even more when going for Cap 125 as you open up Baghdad.
Now it's no secret what Silkroad nowadays is all about which is 'Always finding the easy way out' in other words, cheating and abusing.
A part of what makes Job-Based servers abusable is having big maps so assuming a cap 100/90/80 server with both EU/CH race opens BUT with Samarkand and Constantinople taken down with EU drops added to all of the Chinese monsters and a portal to a nerfed version Alexandria's job cave from Taklamakan, on a scale of 1 to 10, how likely do you think this could work out?
PS: The Thief/Hunter spawns will be edited so that half of the spawns are European ones.
The way I see it, I think the pros are as the following.
1) Less Map = Less problems with GameServer
2) Might play a big role in making jobbing less abusable
3) People won't be split into so many towns so it could make the server look more populated.
So let me know what you guys think oh and if you're looking for a short explanation then just take a look at the following picture.

like title quests, I can just migrate them to Chinese maps. Thing is, why leave a map if it's useless?

To give an impression for people who don't play these games in the first place but when talking about srops business. Your customers are actual silkroad players. Not people who don't know ratshit about silkroad.

even tho you're full of sarcasm. valid point. +1 but it's for the sake of minimizing job cheating but I guess Syloxx could be right, disabling the NPCs could be enough.

If internet in the Arab world isn't so ****** to a point where not even money would help, I would buy my own host (in other words, a pc that's more powerful than ovh and hetzner servers) so let's not discuss money problems with me. I was just stating the pros of the idea

The area in your picture could be somewhere near the Corniche of Abu Dhabi in Khaldiya and that area is completely developed because it's on the ******* Corniche. I live in the outskirts cause there are almost no houses in the city, just apartments.

since everybody is trashtalking and nobody seems to actually understand the meaning of what bodo mentioned.. let me show my perspective.
When I was at Dymer & Devias, we didn't have any kind of anti cheat mechanism in place. We had the china + roc only as maps. Cheating was huge. Player count was around 1k at that time. Cities were full, everyone had fun. Cheating was un-affected.
You cannot stop cheating by making the map smaller. It won't help at all.
Also, @Exo there is no "RAM" problem when using all maps. With china only the gameserver eats what.. 2.7gb? With all maps it eats what... 3GB?
Discussing money there because of 300MBs is stupid.
@Bodo again
Go with china only if you dont have more than 600-700 players. If you want to concentrate players on specific trading routes, you can build "Special trade routes" like I have. That concentrates jobbing onto a smaller map, however leaves you the benefit of having more trade routes. This will be helpful if, by any chance, there are more thieves than Trader/hunters on the server.

Contemplating taking my redemption source and opening a PVP server alongside the current one.
Or creating a 'parallel world' inside my current server just for PVP.
But for the purpose of this thread lets just focus on a new pvp server.
You will have to forgive my ignorance because I have never played any PVP private server (or any private server for that matter, heh).
Obviously the source will need some modification to become a true pvp server, no problem there.

SQL Server 2012 - Opinions
03/28/2012 - Shaiya Private Server - 1 Replies
I've recently obtained a copy of SQL Server 2012, however, I have yet to tinker with it. I am curious, has anyone else had any experience with it? I am curious about performance and overhead more than anything else.
Microsoft claims a vast improvement on performance, but has not said much about resource overhead.
I will more than likely play around with it over the next week or so, but in the mean time, has anyone had any hands on experience with it thus far?

Starting a PVP server - need your opinions
09/25/2011 - SRO Private Server - 33 Replies
Hello~
I'm working a PVP server and I would like to hear your opinion.
Would you like to play on the server?
What level cap would you like? (I was thinking about 100 or 110 cap)
How much starting Silk you want?
What kind of items would you like at NPCs? (If 100 cap: do you want to start with Degree 10 SOM or Sun items? If 110 cap: normal Nova, or Egypt A or B?)
Which town should be the main town and PVP area?
Should elixirs be available at NPCs?
Should alchemy stones be available at...

Creation of a new ECSRO server (opinions)
03/12/2009 - SRO Private Server - 44 Replies
Hi!
I was just asking myself if ECSRO could create a new server (just like ECSRO, Fembria and VIP) but this time a high rated PVP server.
Just think about it...
Instant lvl 90.
Full equipments at start (Weapons and Armour).
Unique monsters.
Cheap prices.
