I think "th" stands for "two hands" (2-hands weapon used by fighter).
the use of shield seems not linked to specific animation file, or possibly one of the 1-hand, 2-hands or dual weapons animation files include a check to manage shield.

Edit:
I forgot to clarify one point:
Years ago I helped Xtreme GMs to add shields on all classes.
I don't remind troubles related to shield position.
There I actually don't know what is the trouble, apart of course that ... splash of color.
On the first pict, the OP indicates a "normal position of shield", from my opinion is too high but it's pointless since we don't know what the pict shows; is it a true capture of in-game rendering or a manually drawn pict to indicate us where a sword and a shiled are supposed to be ? (I assume we know it but...).
On second pict, a red splash is possibly your badly-located shield, assuming the splash is a shield.
If so, you first forgot to show or explain how that shield is rendered on a class that yet supports shields.
Without this info, we can not exclude that the issue come from invalid coordinates in the 3DO file.
Of course, if the same shield is finely displayed by another class, the first thing to do is to add not defined animation files in the .alt of the class showing issues.
