This IDM changes the item to unlimited just for the looks. Because your changed item doesn't get used ingame

example: You changed a training submachine (unlimited) to a DHa-41. Then you play a 30 minutes match, and then you turn off your IDM. Normally your submachine (unlimited) should have been degraded ( to 90% or so). But since you changed the looks of the submachine (unlimited) your submachine didn't degrade. So you don't have to waste any PEN to repair your submachine.
