Mmm well yes you can connect with retail client but players say they get some serious empty strings with the US retail client....maybe PH client might work if you are willing to give that a try

Whenever i try login it lets me go to select server then it just crashs. I am using the PH server i also tried with US and serenity but none are working for me

It's always best to use our provided client, but I can personally attest that a 7.4 US Retail client works fine with a PH Sframe, provided you can find a 7.4 US client to use or if you haven't updated your own US client(You cannot, however, see 8.1 pets or the 8.1 deco just to name a few things). If you use an 8.1 US client 90% of in-game content is empty strings, blank, unusable or broken & unable to repair.

I can't say why you're crashing unless server was down or something. The 2 official clients should at least allow you to login.
