Hello guys, this topic is for people who are starting to play modded minecraft. This is indicated for FTB direwolf20 modpack but it can also be used for other similar modpacks. In this tutorial, I'll be teaching you how to start the IC2 way, but maybe i'll make a tutorial for thermal expansion way later.
So, when you start out, you gather some wood, dig a hole in the ground to get some stone and pass your first night. Then, do some mining... until you have got a good amount of mainly iron, copper and tin, because these are the ores you are going to need to start out with industrialcraft2 (you can also go thermal expansion way, but I don't reccomend it since it takes more time to process the ores, you can do it later), and after that, you should make a treetap (see the all the recipes of stuff in NEI which I assume you know how to use) and go search for some IC2 rubber trees. These don't appear in desert or taiga biomes and are not very common in most of the biomes except swamps, where they are most abundant... When you find some, collect all the leaves to get saplings and use the treetaps in those orange dots in the trunks, they yield some sticky resin, which can be cooked (and later extracted) into rubber, one of the main components of IC2 machines and cables. Then, you should make a generator. It's not too complex, but I can tell you you're gonna need some iron, tin, redstone, copper and rubber, so make sure you have all that. Then make a macerator, which is not too complex either. Then place the generator and make some copper cables, and connect both machines via copper cable... Be sure to place them where you'll want them permanently, because you can't remove the macerator without a wrench (made of bronze), but even though you can make it early on, there's a chance (about 10%) it will break into a machine block and you'll have to craft it all over again. You can use the macerator to grind ore into 2 dust of its type, and then you can cook the dust into 1 ingot each, doubling your output. You can also make an electric furnace and attach it to your copper cables, it's faster to cook stuff and it's also much more efficient. Oh, and a little detail, copper cables lose 1 EU/Tick each 4 cables, so don't place more than 4... If you want to place more than 4 cables, use Glass Fibre Cables as they lose 1 EU/Tick each 40 cables instead of 4, although they cost a diamond and silver... Golden cables lose 1 EU/Tick every 2 cables, so they are extremely unefficient...
