Kinda, I think it was supposed to be used with a digital recorder, but it worked well all the same.
The difference the main thing would be price. The snowball is basically an inferior version of the yeti (it's not bad, but the Yeti is flat out better).
The snowball is kind of quiet, so you might have to boost the audio in post-editing. The yeti has four different settings for solo recordings, groups of people, it sounds great and it looks amazing. Go to youtube and listen to both of them (the snowball is usually boosted by editing, but whatever).
I use to use a lavalier microphone (don't quite recall what it was called). Now, I don't use anything, but I might for either the Yeti or the ATR 2500 when I have some cash I could spare.
Keep the topic a secret, don't spoil it for me :P As for the mic, you have two options, XLR and USB (go with USB, unless you want to do this professionally).
I'd pick one of these, depends on how much money you want to sink into this:
Blue Snowball (Or Yeti)
Audio Technica AT2020USB (Or ATR 2500)
Rode Podcaster.
As far as I know, these are the top when it comes to usb audio.
The presentation sucked, cause I wasn't as ready as I could have been (from now on, I'm going to prepare for every scenario), yet I had a lot of fun doing it. Everyone's nervous when they do something new, or "weird", you just get use to it.
Also, what mic are you using?
You just have to overcome that. For example, yesterday, I had to do a two-man presentation about Japanese culture and my partner didn't show up. I had to go to plan B and do it alone, in front of 200+ people. You breathe in and have fun.
Thats why I doing the bachelor of engineering.
But don't worry. I did a vocational training as a precision engineer. So I know how the measuring works. ^^
