icebolt and defense skilldb

Discussion on icebolt and defense skilldb within the Mabinogi forum part of the MMORPGs category.

icebolt and defense skilldb

okay so ive been messing around because im fairly FAIL at modding and hacking, but i thought itd be fun to try and laugh at my fails anyways xD
so i went to the skilldb and changed a few things using the trains of thought:

that fireball's range and healing's range can be maxed to 999999 so why not some of the bolt spells like icebolt do tht. well i changed the range on icebolt to that and tested it. well it failed of course but i felt close when i saw that normally when your out fo range for a spell it says that under the targeting cursor, but mine kept the (in range) targeting cursor but wouldnt let me fire from so far away. so how do i fix that problem? or if its not really plausible to fix, id at least like to know WHY the problem occurs like tht.

the next thing i tried was adding extra stacks/charges to the skills, i tried this on defense and on icebolt. there was no logic to why it might work, i just thought heck i might discover something neat xD well it didnt work with defense at all when i set it to 3 charges possible. and for icebolt i set it to 7 charges, and it also didnt work. is there an explanation for that please?

also on a side note: im not sure what one can do with the information, but ill try and figure out which packet says to take mana for using a spell. maybe or possibly a different approach to godly mana by individually checking spells packets when u use them and (blocking?) the packets that say, "hey, take out 5 mana for r1 icebolt being used"

that is actually very smart, when u mention blocking the mana packets.
im sorry buh, i cannot answer ur question, because im am inexpierenced myself, buh i will thank you for giving me a great idea.

Hahas, i when onto mabi, and got the packet for casting/charging a firebolt, buh wen i attempted to change the 2mp, to 0mp (cost of mana for charge.), and when i sent it i dced ;< epic fail, buh at least i gave it a try ;D

your welcome! and thanks for the compliment xD but if u want, im gonna try charging icebolt multiple times, stacking the first couple of times, see any patterns. then try charging it individually (canceling aftr each charge) and checking for the pattern in packets. and lastly try a different bolt spell and check the packets btwn the three tests and see if i can figure out which one(s) subtract the mana. if i find them ill post the code on here for othr people to find the method of blocking it. hopefully it will be of use xD i just wish i could make it easier on myself if i had bttr extensive knowledge of the packets. if anyone has any experience with me they would liek to share, it wouldb e much appreicated! ^^

hahars, i wish you my best luck, so will i be trying on mabi, and if u get it working, i suggest you to not post it up, cause that will leech all over, since u figured it out, i suggest u keep it as ur method, again of course, it wont hurt for u to pm and share that wit me tho ;D gl man

well i doubt ILL figure it out xD if i did tho, sure id share with you. id just want it for private dungeon runs, hp ish never a problem with me as long as i have plenty of mana xD
and if ths method does end up working, regardless of whoever figured it out, it shld be just as easy to do the same with individual stamina consuming skills for infinite stamina. as for hp, i have no idea, maybe you could do tests with foxes and try and send only 1 damge hits instead of like 50 damge from stronger monsters. another possibility (im such a dreamer, one who will never get anything accomplished xD) is to also test with foxes with a passive def armor or shield, and let the fox hit you until you get a successful ping, and possibly continuosly sending the code that gives you that 100% passive def similar to 100% range. well maybe 100% passive def now

haha wow! u got pretty far anyways! but plz, do tell which packet it is for casting/charging the firebolt, id like to test it msyelf too! :3 i wasnt planning on doing the tests tonight since i had hw saved up thts due when monday rolls around, but it sounds like maybe i shld!

the reason the bolt spells can't get further range is because you have to select a target to use them on, while heal chooses a ally (which makes it like the item -> summon mod). the reason fireball works is because it doesnt "home in" to a target, but just launches a fireball to the spot it was on.

now the charge limit... charging a skill sends a packet to the server, the server then responds to it with a yes if you have less then the max, or a no if you have the maximum allowed (yes with 4 icebolts but no with 5 icebolts)

here, the packet size for firebolt charge is 28, good luck on ur research man

ty very much, i found the same packet for icebolt as well. ty cloud for the helpful response! glad to know wht went wrong! itd be nice if u could explain a little further on why targeting affects why u cannot add range to the spells tho.

if you target a friend with heal, you send a request to their client and their client sends an accept back, after which you send a packet to the server saying "im healing and they accepted"

if you target a monster with fireball, you send a packet to the server saying "i wanna blast that spot"

if you target a monster with a bolt spell you send a request to the monster, it then responds with eiter "no way your outta range" or "ok hit me DX". after which you send a packet to the server with the results

I am new to all of this modding and stuff in games, but I wanted to point out with the bolts spells, did you remember the 10% decrease in mana use for each bolt spell stacked?
