I agree that killing every NPC got out of hand. Personally, I would've LoL'ed to see every "Resident" and Commerce Animal killed; heck, even Pierrick was kind of funny, the way he was standing, and all.
But to actually completely prevent "Normals" from playing the game? Nah. Someone needs to buy a punchin' bag with a poster of Justin Bieber taped on it to take off some of that boredom.
