[Rules] [VOTE] Server recycling, ad limiting rule

For a while I've been watching a disturbing pattern emerge in the CO private server scene, others have mentioned it as well. I am talking about the same owner running multiple servers/advertisements, most likely for milking the cow for a subpar server.

To combat this issue and to provide a safe environment for people searching for quality servers here, it has been suggested that we limit the amount of server advertisement per user to one.

Now, I do not wish to impose my ideology on the community (even though I think that this is a very fair suggestion), so let's put this to vote. This poll will stay up until this Friday, and please make your voice heard regarding this.

Of course, if you have any suggestions, other or additional measures to take, please speak up, everyone is welcome.

My Opinion:
One open topic per user every 6 months, user can't have two ads open at once and if the server closes require a reason to open another one. Because recycling the same topic for a different server make it looks like it has a lot of views when it has been released now.

Yes, and I agree. 1 per six months is a good start. Though, recycling servers would still be possible under the same advertisement or under another account. I still think educating people of the problem is necessary due to that reason, but a rule like the one you're proposing will at least trim the weeds. It's definitely better than nothing.

Here an idea (wild one). How about we have a person within the staff or trusted member to review servers and that way people wouldn't be baited into them. If people are dumb enough to go to these servers then they deserve to be ****** over. Each of these threads have already feedback posted but none of it being truly "valid", But hey at the end of the day epvp co section for private server is kind of dead it been dead since the times I ran epoch about a year ago and it hasn't changed since. If anything we need someone to post review and make it a bit noticing the good servers (Maybe give them a glow on there thread or a [Trusted] tag) explaining that this server is actually good and not a scamfest.

That sounds like a good opportunity to introduce potentially a lot of bias. I don't think any one person should really be designated as "trusted"; I think the community really needs to step up in saying what they want and don't want. If people at the very very least one starred these threads or 5 starred threads they like, then we might be in better shape. Imagine if more people were vocal about this stuff. Opinions are always much stronger collectively.

Edit: In terms of scams, some players care a lot about that and some don't. They see it as either necessarily in "upgrading" a server to a more "stable" source or changing the feature set, etc. They don't understand the technical aspects of it and why they shouldn't need to continue to reinvest in the same character for each server over and over again. There are so few examples of good servers that it just seems necessary. Part of that problem is definitely Conquer Online as well. It's a game that preys on its players. A lot of cash cows are used to the milking... Even for getting the best of awful experiences.

I've voted Yes as well, I agree with the 1 thread per user every 6 months rule and providing a reason as to why the old server shutdown.

I also like Epoch's idea however Spirited made a really good point about how opinions are always stronger collectively and the starring system on each thread is similar to what you're discussing, It's not accurate but it's what we have.

In my humble opinion this should've been done ages ago, but I guess better late than never, I thank everyone that took and will take part of this vote to better our community.

PS: I wish a certain someone would get banned already.

Just in general, people need to speak up more if they don't like something being done in the community. Like, there's about a 25% vote against this idea and not one of them have listed a reason why. All that does by not speaking up is delegitimize those votes. Those votes to me right now just seem like they're the people scamming our community and devaluing servers. Someone from that group of voters prove me wrong.

I really like the idea, but I think its a no for now. I don't know how I would put this into words for people to understand, so I'll give it a try. I voted no because the section doesn't have much advertisement, meaning the staff (and concerned senior members) are really doing a good job maintaining that section.

I don't wish for an argument, I clearly understand the idea, and seems like the people have already spoken. I just feel like voting for no (sorry).

It's not really an argument, I'm hoping for discussion. That should be the point of threads like this. So do you think that bad advertisements are better than fewer advertisements? I agree that I think we do an ok job at informing players willing to read the thread, but having the ability to remove them outright would be nice.

I rather see no advertisements than having to see int.MaxValue advertisements with scams

I think the main takeaway is the ability to perform action if required. Exceptions can always be made if absolutely necessary if the reason is justified. In the past, we considered stickying threads based on time online, but the admins said that presented too much bias. I think this approach with 1-per-user is a good compromise.
