By hacking into the server obviously. How hard is that to do? Must be quite difficult since, well, the servers would crash etc.. and that doesn't seem to happen.

the mets are the same from sky pass, met zone or lab, they are just items.

I was hunting with my archer once for 15 minutes and found a super 1 socket lvl 80 bow.
Also, I believe that the better things you have in your inventory while hunting, the better the chances are, because it's sometimes hard to get that first met, but when you get the first 1 or 2 mets, the chances are a lot greater than when you had no mets.

Ok - I tested the Low dura. and it seems to be true.
I beat the hell out of 20 normal lvl 90 rings.
I got the dura down on each to 5 max
I took 20 normal lvl 90 rings max dura.
I started at 9:00 pm CST on Monday (after server maint.)
On day one I did ten rings from each set.
->I would spend one met per ring and alternate low and max dura rings.
->I started with Max dura
->using the time from the server I tried each ring 5 minutes apart.
Results
7 of 10 Low dura upgraded
1 of 10 Max dura upgraded
On Day two I did ten rings from each set (this was one week later)
->I would spend one met per ring and alternate low and max dura rings.
->I started with Low dura
->using the time from the server I tried each ring 5 minutes apart.
Results
8 of 10 Low dura upgraded
0 of 10 Max dura upgraded
Of the above tests I gained no sockets
For the rest of the rings (24 rings)
->Dropped the dura to 2 on each of them
->Tried my hardest to be first in TC after server update.
->Finally was there with only one other person (when I started)
->Tested one met on each of them as fast I could
-->I started with ten rings and 30 mets got more from warehouse as needed.
Results
2 rings took 2 mets
22 rings took 1 met
3 rings gained sockets
I don't like like to say that this proves anything. It does prove that I have way too much time on my hands. But numbers don't lie, and I did my test in as logical of a way that I could think of.
First off I had to get the items to almost breaking point. I found that my Warrior did the best job of lowering normal rings to 0 of 5 if I just put the ring on and stuck him in SkyPass quest with an auto attack bot, and just let it run.
This got the rings I was going to use to test. It took about 6 hours per ring, and I did break a few trying to get them all the same.
Then I ran the test at very specific times and days so there would be no reason to believe that timing and position has anything to do with it.
In all I read the post in March - got mets from SkyPass to do the test, and used the SkyPass "killed" rings to test on.
After I finished all the results I posted them up.
One thing to note - after the upgrade - all rings where back to normal dura.
