Fantasy or sci-fi?

When we pick the games we play, the most important thing that’s on our mind is the content. We need to know what we’re going to play, what the game is about, a little bit about the story-line, and the game genre (or perhaps the word “style” would be more appropriate).
When it comes to a MMORPG, the genre’s are fantasy or science-fiction (sci-fi). Fantasy games are based on fiction, there is no actual time other then “long long ago” or “a long time ago”. The player get to fight dragons, goblins, giants, and other mythological monsters. Mostly used weapons are swords, bows, and magic. Well, basicly you are immersed in an ancient magical world, where there’s no thechnology.
Contrary to fantasy, science-fiction games are set in the distant future or another planet. These games are not based on any myths, or religions (but rather on someone’s “vision” of what the future will look like). In most games the athmosphere is post-apocalyptic where the human civilization is coming to an end. The enemy’s are robots, clones, mutants and other futuristic creatures that aim to destroy you, and everyone else.
Honestly, I preffer fantasy games, only becouse I like exploring the “unknown” worlds and I like it when a games has a deep and immersive storyline (sandly I cant say that about sci-fi games).
But the sci-fi genre has a huge disadvantage, since they are not as successful, making these games are very risky, so not everyone wants to invest in the making of a game that no one wants to play.
Conclusion: I know i didint give you alot of things to think about, but its up to whatever you like, Lord of The Rings or Star Wars, there are a lot of choices, so all you need to do is take ur pick.
