This application is a demonstration of the power and flexibility of the WoW!Sharp dll available from
. The dll is intended for developers who want to use a real language like C# or VB.NET to write their own bots or other World of Warcraft utilities, without having to spend months disassembling and analyzing wow.exe. The dll provides programmers with information about any player, unit, or object within the game, and it provides a full set of functions for interacting with the game such as movement, reading the players spellbook, casting spells and melee styles, testing buff expirations, casting buffs, reading the players inventory and using inventory items both on the player and on the players weapons, and more. One very nice feature of the dll and the bots built from it is the way offsets are updated after a patch. The dll connects to the WoW!Sharp servers when it starts and reads the current offsets. No changes have to be made when the game is patched, no new downloads, and no editing of files. During the last few US patches the offset downloads were ready before Blizzards servers were back up, so no playing time was lost! Although this application is a full featured mage bot, it started life as a test application for the dll. A new version of the bot is already under way which will be written from the ground up for easy use while maintaining the flexibility needed to fight in any area of the game. This new version will be available from WoW!Sharp for those who don't want to write their own bot.
Here are some instructions for using the bot with a new alliance gnome mage if you want to see what it can do. I put together some basic saved settings for getting to level 6 or so.
Create in a new mage gnome.
Open the bot program, press Start, and once the bot is connected press Fight. (it takes a few seconds to connect and get offsets) Wait for level 3. (yes its that easy) Remember that the game does not need to have focus for the bot to work. You can even minimize the game and just watch the bot window, or download WoW!Radar and watch the action there while doing other work on the computer, in fact the bot is running here while I type this.
Once you hit level 3, press Stop to stop fighting. Press Start to reconnect the bot. On the first tab press "Run back all points" to return to the start area.
When back at the starting location change the player drop down to "Mage level 3" and go to the Movement tab and select "Mage three".
Go to the first tab and press Start if needed, then press Fight. Wait for level 5.
Once you reach level 5 Stop the bot, then press Start again, and on the first tab press "Run back all points" to return to the start location.
Next, switch to the Movement tab and change the selected movement list from "Mage three" to "Run to trainer", switch back to the first tab, and press "Run Forward Waypoints" to run to the mage trainer nearby.
Train however you want, but it would be good to train "Conjure Water" and "Arcane Intellect", "Frost Bolt" is optional but probably a good idea.
Once you have finished training, press Stop and then Start to load the new spells. If you trained "Frost Bolt", switch to the Fighting tab and change your pull spell to "Frost Bolt". If you trained "Arcane Intellect" switch to the Buffs and Heals tab and select it in the second drop down list under the heading Buffs.
Change to the movement tab and make sure "Run to trainer" is still selected.
On the first tab press "Run back all points" to return to the starting area.
Take this opportunity to sell everything in your packs to the General Supplies guy under the red tent.
Next, on the first tab, change players to "Mage level 5".
Go to the movement tab, select "Run to Coldridge pass", and on the first tab press "Run Forward Waypoints".
Once you get to the pass, you might as well accept the quest available there for delivery to the Inn where you will be soon.
Next we are going to fight our way out through the tunnel. This gives us a chance to see how useful some of the settings can be for adjusting to different places we are fighting.
Change the Movement setting once again to "Fight Coldridge pass". Go to the Targets tab and delete any names in the target windows. We want to fight anything we find from here on, so we dont need to set names. Change the high level to fight to 4. We also need to change the settings for the distance at which we look for targets. This is to avoid selecting a target in a part of the tunnel far away and out of the line of sight. Change the "Select targets within what distance" setting to 15, and the "Wander how far" setting to 10.
You are now ready to fight your way out through Coldridge pass, so and press Fight on the first tab. You may notice the got buffing itself, conjuring water, and resting if needed. The bot will then head off through the tunnel fighting whatever it finds. Because we had to change the settings to select targets very nearby the bot might run right up to a target to fight it, but it shouldnt be a problem.
Once the bot fights its way through the tunnel it will run to the Inn, press Stop once you are inside the Inn or the bot will turn around and fight back along its Patrol points.
Congratulations, you are now a level 5 mage and out of the newbie zone, all without doing any manual fighting.
If you want to keep going, the next settings are high risk, fighting targets higher level than your new mage. To do this change the Movement setting to "Kharanos level 5", then go to the Targets tab and change the "Select targets within what distance" setting to 50, and the "Wander how far" setting to around 70.
Press "Run forward waypoints" to run out of the Inn and to Dun Morogh. Press fight and watch the bot try to kill high level targets. This is really an example of a bad set of waypoints, because it jumps off a cliff. The problem with that is that if the bot runs from a fight it is losing it runs until nothing is targeting the bot character. If it has to run back too far to get away from a fight, it will run into the cliff and be stuck there until it gets killed. Smart planning of waypoints and patrol points makes for a longer living bot.
Whats next? Its up to you, create your own fighting areas, your own target lists, experiment, and have fun! Remember, this is just a test application, its not really a finished bot, so there is no need to report bugs, there is no more development work on this application. Instead, version 2 of the bot is under way and should be ready soon.
