I adored the two main characters, the plot completely swept me away and managed to surprise me (which is frankly becoming increasingly rare in space exploration stories gone wrong), and the adventure very quickly takes on a horror-like quality that truly won me over. Through its visuals and storyline, Aphelion makes numerous references to the great masters of space fiction, from 2001: A Space Odyssey to Alien, without ever descending into heavy-handed homage: on the contrary, it gives the impression of having perfectly assimilated all these inspirations while creating something new. But, above all, each new environment makes you feel like the sole privileged spectator of a breathtaking panorama. You constantly feel like you're moving through NASA space illustrations from the 1960s, exploring ice caves, bioluminescent beaches, and red sand deserts. It would be a shame to miss out if you're a fan of space landscapes, but be warned: you'll never have pressed the X button on your controller so much to enjoy it.
