Rebellion, the developers of the highly acclaimed Sniper Elite series, have announced that they're in development of a sequel to the first game, Evil Genius, claiming that it's a "fully fledged sequel". Rebellion's CEO, Jason Kinsley says Evil Genius 2 is a game that himself and his team have been wanting to do for a while, and that there are already people working on the anticipated follow up.
"This isn't a remaster." says Rebellion. They then touch lightly on explaining how Evil Genius 2 is a fully-formed sequel that will not be free-to-play and will feature first on PC. Despite all the past rumors surrounding a sequel to the first Evil Genius, this will be the first time in four years that the company have released any statements involving the second game.
"So why didn’t we go ahead with it? Firstly, we were in the middle of a big transition into becoming our own publisher and we needed to put resources into the projects that became Zombie Army Trilogy, Battlezone on PSVR and Sniper Elite 3 and 4."
"Secondly, we decided crowd-funding wasn’t the way we wanted to go. After the growing success of the Sniper Elite series and other Rebellion games IP, we started to feel it wasn’t fair to ask fans to fund a new game if we didn’t need them to! With some big projects now out the door and being enjoyed by gamers worldwide, we feel like now is the time to return to the world of Evil Genius."
Rebellion themselves have asked patient fans to wait a "little longer" and to expect in the coming months further details on the game.
