Ok for the last few months i have been getting requests like crazy to teach people how to overclock their hardware so they can get more fps on their games, or just to have a faster computer in general. So here i will post the basics that you will need to overclock a video card. i would post how to overclock a processor as well but i dont want to be responsible for the fryage of a 500$+ processor lol. if someone is willing to try with their processor as well pm me and i will help you do so. dont worry though, if you follow the guide with your video card and arent greedy and push it 2 hard you will be fine
Now, the only things you will need for this project are internet access, and google. Remember folks, google is your friend! For the first step go to google.com and type in the name of your video card after the words "best driver for". so if your video card is the Geforce 6200 OC then type best drivers for Geforce 6200. if you dont know what video card you have you can check it out by going to start>run>dxdiag. click the video tab and it will say there. after you have read up a bit on peoples opinions on this pick the one that you want and search for it in google. download the new driver. *remember folks the newest driver available is seldom the best driver for a card. newer drivers are for newer cards!! for example the best drivers for the Geforce 6200 turned out to be Forceware 81.85*. next you need Driver Cleaner. uninstall your driver, restart your computer, install driver cleaner and clear all the leftovers of your old driver. restart the comp again. now you can install your new driver after the computer reboots go ahead and install then restart again
More googleing now i guess
Now comes the exciting part! install the program "Rivatuner" from this site . once you’ve done this go ahead and Run Rivatuner. youll see lots of information on your video card but only mess with what i tell you until you are more comfortable with your card and the program. On the main tab under "Driver Settings" you will see the customize button. click it and a menu will pop up. click the first picture *it looks like a video card*. now you will be on the overclocking page! first click "Enable driver-level hardware overclocking" and click "Detect Now" on the window that pops up. now you can change your settings. the safest way to do this is to go up 1 or 2 slots at a time until your computer crashes. when the computer turns back on it will be back to normal. go about 10-20 settings down to be safe. run your computer at these settings for a few days. if there are no crashes in that time *even after playing resource stingy games* then click apply overclocking at startup so that you wont have to mess with this anymore. remember DONT click apply at startup until you have tested the system. otherwise if it crashes it wont automatically reset to default!. also if you havent clicked this you must reapply your overclock settings every time you turn on your computer.
Be careful guys and dont be 2 greedy lest you screw your computer. dont worry its hard to do this from just overclocking the video card. but either way be careful
anyone who found this helpful plz hit the thanks button
