Yeah, but they're buying the elite*gold with a other intention right now. Usually to get the gold trader badge. 260 egold don't affect the level very much.

The idea says it should have a little higher points than the other 2. Nobody said it should let you get the ranks that much easier.
Example buying 260 e*gold might give you 50 points(not %!) on the star level.
So would spending 260 e*gold give you 80 points for example. I don't think that this would change very much. It's just a little help in getting up. Since you would still lose the advantage of possessing e*gold the rank wouldn't get up that fast like you might think.

I even do not get why it should get more points? Yeah, sure it get rids of that much eg then (maybe), but epvp actually will only profit when new eg is bought and there is so much eg out in the wild that I assume it would much too long until you will notice an effect to this.

I don't think you got my point. You're right by saying, that you can already buy some level percentages when you buy elite*gold from the system, but that's rather a small side benefit and (most of the time) not the main reason to do that. Your suggestions could change that.
The star levels were introduced to determine the "worth" of an account or how many time you've invested in it. Buying levels permanently would make this system pretty meaningless. Just think of Overwatch for example. Blizzard could probably make some additional money by selling exp, so that some people get the silver or gold portrait more quickly, but the level should be an indicator to assess a player.

If we always would think like that, I'd see no reason why we implemented bump coins. It's actually just wasting egold for bumping your thread with less waiting time. So why spend egold on that if you could just wait the regular time instead?
Buying points would give you a permanent reward. Bump coins don't. And yeah, user will have to spend their egold before ppl start buying it again from the system.
@ I got your point. Tbh I don't really think that the star level represents the worth of an account anymore. Buying tons of egold in the black market to gain the lvl 35 star doesn't make my account worth more.
For example having a user with 500 posts and 100000 egold. The account is worth the amount of egold(money) but it doesnt say anything about the fact, if the guy did something good for the community.
Or an user with 30k posts and none egold. The user could have done a lot of helpful posts or just kept spaming the off topic.
So in my opinion the star level is just a nice to have like jewellery.

The difference is that you can lose the level again if you're selling the elite*gold + other users can see that your level is high because of the elite*gold, so they can estimate your real level, which is not possible if you buy the exp solely.

You still have to invest a good amount of time to get 30k posts and I don't think the account worth depends on the quality of the post... Well, actually it does because the amount of received thanks is also included, but speaking of the post indicator alone.

We have a few user with little post/thanks count and level 35 star, just because they bought a lot of egold through the system. And many user do ask why he has that star, so not really everyone knows everything about the star system.
Sorry, but giving an user any worth because he got 30k posts through spam without helping the community isnt fair i think. A lot of user also got their thanks due to the funny pics thread.
I still hold the opinion that this star level is just a nice to have.

Like I said. The star is a nice to have in my opinion and not something to measure the worth of an user.
Still you would have to spend tons of egold to reach a high rank. Buying 10000 egold through the system as a new user might get you to level 16 for example. Spending that 10k on buying points would let you reach level 20. Something like this. Its still everyones own choice if they want to do that like this.
My idea was implementing this for user who dont know what to do with their egold if they got a small amount on their account.
Edit: what about a weekly/monthly limit of points you can buy?

Because it gives them a marketing advantage which can give them more money than they spent before. And you still misse dreason why it should be rewarded more than actually buying eg from the system?

Because they put the egold back into the system and user then have to buy new egold.

don't think it's a good idea since star level based mainly based on activity if i see someone with high star level i assume he is very active & more trust-able to deal with with this system ppl could just buy e*gold and spend it to earn trust on black market

As long as people wish or rather enjoy investing their e*gold in visual star levels, why not? There's not much to say anything against that idea in my honest opinion.

A high star doesn't make you trustworthy.
