Visual Basic? If you're going to write a silkroad emu you will need a more powerful programming language like c++ or c#

It dosen't really matter
Since networking is the same for .net languages.
But still visual basic can make an emulator as long as you know what you're doing

Yeah I tried that some time ago.
But they kinda suck, it isn't the language that matters, it's the people who are working on it.

Login server in c# game server in c++ map server in java
database in mssql
?

That would be crazy to work with, we can't share code between two servers etc.
And then we would need at least 4 devs/language...
