Thats true to some extend. But great things are way harder to reach with those limitations. It would take much more time to achieve something truly interesting.

New interface, dungeon system, flying mounts, random events in a specific and shown area (common mob spawns/unique spawns/be the fastest that kills xy), voice over ip. you could even do something like a battle royale

you are so limited without the source code.

And yet you cannot achieve every single point even with the src.
The engine cannot handle any self-control flying animations (there aren't any Y axis declarations ingame ... just for camera and that is it).

^ there's literally no reason to even do that much of a change, even with src. like changing the game = not sro anymore.

You neither need a new engine nor you have to create a whole new game for those features. Why should you do that?

So why do people even bother adding new things to SRO? You obviously don't change the game completely.

OH right, that is why Zyian and others with sourcecodes had so many non-joymax-standards in their servers, like custom skills with new parameters, new particle animations and even new overall meta, new currency types, the new Islam region and flying mounts... Oh wait, that actually was Aion or Lineage2, my mistake, excusez moi.

The two people I know who have the somewhat messy source code are both not good developers. Furthermore you are joking about this and not getting the point so I am out.

You know, there is a big difference about owning source codes. Owning module source codes won't cause any big impact upon game variety as people here might think.

You cannot add new regions, new navmeshing paths nor AI path finding behavior (which btw. also affects the Y-axis. Check Aion geo files and you might get the clue), neither new efp clusters.
Simply: Create a new game. Screw this src horsecrap here.
