Lag's shouldn't appear .. So I think it's all about bandwidth..
A second thing you should do is:
Go to your power settings and set it on max options otherwise speed step is enabled ,and ur cpu goes down to 70% usage a lot the option is on "balanced" usually,then make an inspection and delete the raid1 thats enabled and make it cross raiding ,that will increase the read and write capacity to ur HDD.
Then make a sql limit for 15gb ram and delete urlog db and resotre a clean one again dont trucate also dont use mssql express.

So you can throw your ram to trash, i means noting when it come to database read/write so many queries.

you just need to order a decent server, instead of a vps.

Get a sandy bridge e3 cpu,

16gb ram minimum

1 120gb+ ssd


and you should be fine
