Do you see now how fucked up this game is ?

What do you guys think about it ?

Here's a screenshot I took from Rev6 the morning after inspection. This was probably about about 4 hours after inspection was completed and before any bots were updated or multiclients publicly released.
Remember also that the inspection ends during the normal sleeping time for most Americans, so you have to factor in additional real players who were still sleeping.
I would say that roughly 40% the server capacity of any particular server is of "real people". There are closer to ~50k real players rather than the proposed 30k.
Remember though, a lot of people use SBot which allows 15 connections at most IIRC. Let's say you had a 3500 player server. 234 people running 15 characters would fill that server. For the 30 connection limit version, it would only take 117 people to fill an entire server. This same math applies to any clientless program (i.e. if you modified any of my code to make a simple clientless). It's not hard to make a CL that would allow you to connect 30 characters, just for the sake of taking up space.
While the gold bots do take up a significant amount of room, if all the gold bots disappeared, you'd still have problems with clientless player bots/programs, which are far more in number nowadays than ever in the past. Players would just fill the servers up with their own clientless programs.
I think if Joymax wanted to temporarily fix their servers, this is what they'd need to do:
1. Limit world server connections to 5 per IP rather than the 30 it's at now. Game cafes would need to register their IP with Joymax for a cap increase. Likewise for any universities, which wouldn't since they rather not have their networks being used for those purposes.
2. Rewrite the login server and change their security scheme. This is to break every single piece of packet based code and "restart" Silkroad development. The problem right now is that the login servers are all the same for Silkroad and once you understand one of them, you understand all of them. Changing the world opcodes is only a small annoyance that can be overcome in a matter of
minutes with the right knowledge.
3. Use a third party protection. As much as people hate gameguard, hackshield, xtrap, etc.. they are somewhat effective in keeping the little guys out and reducing the amount of public code and programs that are released since it'll get patched.
Even if they did those three things, it wouldn't make the game any better. They would have to take the forth step, which is the most important one, and that is to
fix the game itself. The game has evolved so much since they first started it that they don't really understand the people that play it now and why people choose to cheat to play it nowadays. This is a huge discussion in itself on what would make the game better, but until JM fully realizes this, the game isn't going to get much better until the 3rd race is introduced..
Of course, this is all
easier said than done. Most people here don't really understand how complex "business" really is and the fact they just can't do things in their game like it were some personal project. There is a process to this stuff and there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes for every decision and change. Without this type of discipline in the business world, the business would simply fall apart.
So, it really is a matter of "
putting up" with how things are or "
moving on". I'm sure Joymax is aware of a lot of the problems that people bring up here, but they just can't make the game better over night or even over the course of a year. It takes a lot of time and testing and decision making which effects business. When it comes to business, what is best for the "users" is not always best for the "company", so while we may all think we know what would be best for the game, we really don't even know the half of it!
