How do i edit NPC's, Mobs , Bosses, and Items ?

Recently got a test server going on my computer and have been editing the data.saf file in shstudio2 ... I have been making a fair amount of changes and notice that they all save to the file itself but none of the changes have applied in game and i am trying to figure out how to get the game to read the changes that i have made to the file. I have been searching for a solution to this and have found a fair amount of suggestions only to see further down the forum topic that they do not work. I am just learning to Dev and am trying to start working on my own server. Any suggestions / tutorials / links / ideas would be helpful... the easier the better.

You also need to update the server/database in order for your changes to work.
