Microsoft SQL 2008 are not configured for Windows 8. Remmber that SQL 2008 is a old DB system and was created before windows 8 got released.

As everyone above said. Use a Virtual machine for another OS (XP) would be best. and then bridge the connections between them. Then install SQL on that one.
