question- editing gear

i know that you can easily edit the textures of gear by changing the color
ive done that a lot
but my question is..every physical in game item has a model number in the sdata
would it be possible to actually make a new model number with a custom texture created by hand?
ive played around with the models and ive noticed all ep4 weapons 49+ have all 4 ele glow models..theres some models ive found that are only in the sdata and not in game unless you add them o.O
but i want to create my own model and add it the game
anyone know where to actually start to make a new model number?
once i know how to do that i can get anything in game :P
