Help with SQL server magangement studio express

I downloaded SQL SMSE but when i go to install it something always happens and the installation fails. Then a error code comes up bla bla bla

Can someone help me out with this ? do i need other programs to run it, im running windows xp btw dont know if this makes any difference thanks

You could try doing it how I did in Step 7. of my guide:

Pretty much the installation fails everytime.

I suggest reading through Microsoft Knowledge Base or MSSQL forum. I found solutions to most my problems there.
