Make sure you configure everything in the Surface Area Configuration Manager and try to connect to your server using username: sa and ur password you put for it, put your address as 127.0.0.1 (this being your localhost) and you should be able to connect properly, awaiting feedback.

You dont need IIS to use MSSQL. Did you properly enable TCP/IP and Namepipes protocol in MSSQL?

Bane, are you trying to use ZeroSignal's files or any of its versions, because it looks like it. First: check protocol configuration for MSSQL, enable all VIA, Named Pipes, TCP/IP, set static port to 1433 (this is how you go around named instance). Second: throw out any *.bat files and Attach every single database manually. Last: just run a query to add GM, Linked Servers, etc.

Yes you need iis to install MSSQL. If you dont have it you will get error while you installing. I got this problem before alot of times when i installed it on vps/dedicated servers.

ISS and MSSQL are completely different programs. I don't understand why you suggest to install it. You don't need IIS. You need NET framework and Power Shell and sometimes Windows Installer to install MSSQL. At least that's what is needed for MSSQL 2008. I don't recall 2005 requirements, but they were similar.
