Well, you can balance for level 100 and respective gear but than lower levels will fall off aswell as content will be hard to bring in due to the upper levels going nuts.
What I experienced is that, the more you change, the more happy your players are. Players want to experience and learn new stuff, because it gives a fresh experience in an environment they know. Throwing off and replacing all skills for example doesnt make the game unfamiliar, instead, it makes it more interesting and players actually get that feeling back from when they once started playing the game. Discover and conquere. At least thats what Ive learned from OldRohan.

This is one of those times where we have that major difference of opinion
You're probably right about the people wanting a new experience, I might be judging things wrong. I still think that for every person who likes a new experience, there's one who doesn't.
And there's nothing wrong with full rewrites as long as its done right, but you don't need any advice from me about that
In the end, whichever path you choose, as long as the end result is a good one, everyone is a winner.

There was always various metas and some min/maxing like templars. However some classes did have many various ways of setting up. Make sure your new "meta" still allows for build diversity and you haven't just made every class a min/max single route build.
