I'd tried it few month ago, I eared at this time you just don't loose your empty card.
Your version as mine are just fake.
If your tame miss, it is definitely missed. No card after server reopen, empty or not.
And if you're a bit too long, I mean if you don't kill mobs before being disconnected, you just lose your empty card.
