Computer Crashes while Rappelz'ing

I would post this to the gpotato team but, F them IMO. Besides, I don't want to send them any of my files, nor have I played there recently.

I have issues, and I'm not really sure what's causing it but I've got a low grade office computer from 2005, which uses the kind of video card with shared memory. I barely have enough ram, and a huuuge memory leak, like crazy.

After load screens sometimes my computer will hard reset. No B.S.O.D., thankfully. I have no debug/dump files to check if there is a conflict of some sort. What I think is happening is that my computer just runs out of memory and shuts off. Practical conclusion? I was considering buying a new graphics card, but I'm thinking my computer is just too old school. It requires a PCI card, not pci-e. I'm frustrated with this, and I don't want to buy a new computer.

I've been playing rappelz alot lately and I remember why I quit awhile ago, On the KTS, in one of the older epics this started happening and it was a pain to get proxies to work again. Etc. This has happened to me on several occasions. I see that it happens more when I've got a faster than normal speedbuff on. I guess my computer just can't handle it.

It definitely sounds like a memory problem. What are your specs?

Don't laugh, it's epicly obsolete:

XP professional SP3

Intel pentium 4 2.93 GHz
1.49GB RAM
910GL intel chipset, forget the specs on that chipset. I just know it sucks and it has not had a driver update since 2007. Lawl.

I also know that I've got some capacitors starting to explode, the tops are forming a dome and look like they're going to burst. <-- I don't know if that has any relevance.

It's absolutely a memory problem. At the very least you should have a dual-core processor and 2GB (minimum) memory. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

No worries. Thanks I'm due for a computer upgrade sometime sooooooooooooooon. I'm hoping. Just need someone to actually hire me first. I wonder, is it better to build one's own computer, or buy a factory one?

It really depends on what you want. If you want to save money and have something extremely high-end, build it! If not, I'd just buy one. Be careful - don't buy a computer with 64-bit OS if you want to play KTS. It'll auto-abyss you (really stupid incompatibility).

KTS and I have a hate-hate relationship. I love it, but bleh. Never again. It was the worst lay of my life. Lol

I had a netbook with a 64 bit processor and hyper threading. That little thing was /win with 64 bit linux. But I had an unfortunate accident with some soup. It got wet while it was running and shorted out.

I rather like 64bit.

I'm thinking building will be better, buy one piece of the puzzle at a time. I kinda want a powerhouse. I am sick of being incapable to run the awesome games, lag is just so overwhelming too.

Ouch, poor thing! I'll be looking at buying or making a high-end PC one of these days. My daily work requires a lot of multitasking and my memory is always saying "OH NO YOU DON'T!"...

hmm idk how old ur cpu is but u can enable HT (hyperthread mode) in the bios probaly not a good idea if u know nothing about bios tho.

Few guides on google or intel might help tho.

HT will make it a virtual dual core and will help it cope abit more saves u buying a duel core to match ur mainbaord.

As for ram i suggest getting 2gb min like copter said maybe 3gb as rappelz isa memoy leaking nightmare and still sucks for ram usage.

As for the onboard gpu it sucks yes, but dont doubt pci gpu if u find one they are still good for these older games. As for playing rappelz it should be fine.

BTW the new epic 7.2 pet called kainen or ice queen has issues lol the devs messed up with some cacheing or somthing so it sucks tons of ram and leaks like mad making u dc =P just a word of warning tho ^^

I tried to flash my BIOS once, that was a nightmare. I'll prefer not to mess with the BIOS settings too much, and I wasn't even aware that hyper threading could be enabled. When I was a kid I once set a password to the BIOS and my dad got so mad at me, he ended up scrapping the whole thing.

Oh right, in addition to computer crashes, I also experience just rappelz client crashes. It happens because of the same thing, typically speed buff, or right after a load screen.

Well like copter said its a memory issue, press contrl alt del and see how much ram is being use while ur off rappelz and check on it.

But yea btw whats ur comp model? i can get the mainboard from that and tell ya how much ram u can fit and what cpu u can add.

And if ur cpu is like mine Hyperthreading is possible aslong as ur mainboard supports it to sorry didnt mention it before =/

I use CPU-Z

I added a txt file of the stuff it brought up in my other post. I think it does about the same thing you're talking about.

It's a compaq, btw. One that my dad bought awhile ago. I don't know what model name it is, something weird.

Now I restarted my computer and ran Systemcallretriever but...
