Well, being drunk isn't an overall solution of course. But I assume Nomad's suggestion applied to going to discos/clubs/whatever.

Sure, but he also said that if he's being drunk that his inhibitions would vanish. Even if, when he meets a girl while he's being drunk he will certainly meet her again, but without alcohol. So he has to make the thing with his shyness/inhibition next time.

I think being shy results from a lesser self-confidence. Alcohol might higher your self-confidence enough to get a date. Once you got it, you will become aware of the fact that you actually are attractive (which everyone is to certain people), and your self-confidence will raise without drugs.
