Application [Need for Speed World]
Hi, I'm Berkay and I'm an active poster on the forum NFS World. The game got closed but I made an offline server for it, it is currently one of the most active mods released for an NFS title (data from NFSCars) and I'm working on a fully-working MP server. However, we do not have a moderator for the section and spams, misinformation, flamings are all over the place. As an active and a loyal user of the forum, I'd like to apply for the Moderation of the said forum.
As for the info wanted, I'll use the default application form:
Contact data: - Skype: berkay2578
- E-Mail: berkay2578(at)gmail(dot)com
Age:18
What is the reason for your application?: NFS World forum currently doesn't have a moderator and rule breaking activity are just one the daily activities of the users. I'd like to note that ever since JohnHeatz was removed from the moderation, all of the moderators we have got since had no info about the game and randomly gave infractions.
Experience with the subject: I've been playing the game ever since it's Open Beta, have had written hacks for it, contributed to the events and actually wrote a working Offline Server(soon to become a fully-on Private MP Server) to save the game after it was closed on July 2015.
Are you mentally prepared and fitting for such a position?: As I said, I've been one of the most active users in that forum and I'm behind that fact. I've been here since 2012 and have helped tons of people and still am. Moderation is something I can handle, I'm not a random cry-all want-all 18y/o kid.
Experience as a moderator: Only small stuff, like DoTA 2 group moderation on TeamSpeak and Steam. I have only once been a moderator for an internet forum and that was my little project called TreasureHunters, which was made for NFS:W.
So yeah, do let me know of your thoughts.

I'd like to take a shot at being a moderator first because currently no moderators exist for the said forum. I don't want to say something bad to the global moderators, but they are just too busy for such forum.

I honestly can't give an answer, even if you did create NFSW Offline, I don't think that means you deserve becoming a Moderator, to be honest. (Not saying you deserve just because of that, but I don't think someone shouldn't get it, just because they created something)
Also, the GMods are based around reports. From what I've seen, you have made three reports in the past month, then none in the past 5/6 months there after, if it was such a cause for concern, there would be more reports, in my opinion.

Did I even exhaust such a sentence? The people that have posted in this thread said that, not me. The one thing I hate is this, please look up the facts you thought of prior to accusing someone of something. Just because I listed that in "what have you done for this MMO title" part doesn't mean I'm a selfish bastard.
FYI: bastard isn't a bad word, I know people will create a big chuck of topic and discussion just because I said it. It means "an unpleasant or despicable person.", don't fall for the media. Nearly every British you'll talk to will say this now & then.

Now this, this I like. You looked up and showed me data. You're right about that, I don't report actively because when I did do back in the day daxter or Shanks would ignore them all day & all night. So I just left doing that since they didn't do anything anyways. Now I'm not accusing them of being lazy, but if you look around even a little bit in the NFS:W forum while they were a mod, you'd see lots of people literally yelling at them in their posts because virus, warez and spam was just a daily activity with no punishment in the end. It still is, just only in threads that are already created.
Also, didn't Shanks got removed from the mod team for NFS:W forum last week or so? GMods only take care of the forum after that I believe.
And a another note, I never said I was perfect. I just want the section get purged and organized. Be it me or someone else, if it is someone who knows nothing about the game, doesn't follow the threads, doesn't know the board members well, I'll open a thread in the Complaint Area though. We had enough of those. I have 3-4 infractions from daxter+Shanks just because they didn't know English well enough to get a literal joke(eg: bastard is seen as a bad word internationally, while it isn't.) OR they didn't know the game well and thought I was spamming. Whether your reply will hint temper is one of the things on my mind currently. Can't wait to read it!

Nono, I didn't imply that either. It was kind of aimed at everyone (as in, the NSFW Offline part), nor would I consider you a selfish bastard. So, partially, I apologise if that was a bit too direct, just thought of it as a reason, that's all. And, even though I don't consider bastard as a bad word myself (as a note, I'm also British), we have to take into note that not everyone is aware of the meaning and could take it as an aggressive tone, so sometimes we have to be careful of how we convey our message.
Even though some people might not take it seriously, sometimes the people you are directing it might take it in that manner.
Still, the word isn't the thing we should be talking about.

Well, I can't quote on the situation back then, because I don't have the details. However, active or not, we do get a lot of our numbers from reports. If we see X forum getting, lets say. 4/5 reports a week, GMods could probably take care of it and we wouldn't need a dedicated mod for that area.
Whereas there may have been no action in the past (which can be hard to say, because a lot of things happen which are internal), it still should be done, in the end.
I guess I'm just saying is, we base ourselves a lot on reports. At times, it gets difficult to check every single post, every thread in vivid detail to see what's up.

Well, he didn't get removed. It was in good standing, if I'm allowed to say at least.

Parts of it can be argued (mainly the cause for infractions, eg; the bastard part and so on). If you are mainly looking for a Moderator to organise things, you don't need one who knows stuff about the game. It's nice, for sure. But if you want a Moderator to just make things cleaner, that can be handled quite quickly.
Of course, I'm not going to settle my mind on either a yes or a no. I'm just seeing your thoughts and so on.
Apologies if parts didn't make sense, it's just before I'm going to sleep, just quote parts if you need me to elaborate or it make no sense at all.

Yeah, I guess I was just too stressful at the time I wrote my reply. The offline thing is getting bigger than I thought and people asking me question are also getting bigger in amounts each day. I have to keep my PM inbox full or I get lots of lots of people asking me for help and what to do, while it's all in the forums and even in the readme. So yeah, I think I owe you an apology too. I'm sorry that I overreacted on such a small note.

Your English seemed fair enough for me to be able to write such a detailed response without thinking "Is it basic enough?" so I just said that in the end. I do understand that not everyone will have in-depth knowledge on a word that's hardly ever used as a 'joke' internationally. So yeah, I guess I just have to keep it basic.

I'm actually very aware of this fact, I'm a fella that supports it, even. However, you see the people that use the NFS: World forum aren't the top chaps. We have Brazilians, Hispanics, Germans, Australians, even Turks. I also came to a conclusion that the average age of a typical user isn't as high as anyone would wish. Either that or they don't have a lot of computer knowledge. Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that when they see a post, a video, a photo about something that's ' new' and ' exciting' you start to see spams and viruses everywhere. You have the "do want" posts, the "here you go" post with a link to an external file sharing site, the "how do I get this" post"... I'm confident enough to think that you know these much more closer than I do.

The point I made in the previous paragraph should explain why I mentioned that the forum needs a dedicated, interested moderator, not a Gimme the powah and I'll do anything Johny.

I didn't mean it literally, take what I wrote with a grain of salt.

See the paragraph up-top, the one I mentioned the need for such a moderator.

You seem like an alright chap, do let me know if you come to a conclusion. As a person that can truly understand me, your opinion is more valuable to me.

Just asking: if berkay didn't create the NFSW offline does all these people stay here and download from this site for this game or the forum part of nfsw will die at the end of the NFSW online? if this is nothing done by Berkay so don't know what to say!

I am just a new member but from me YES...You have the ability to work as a moderator and we will be glad if you become a moderator. Because NFSW Offline is connected with just one name "berkay". And the main thing is you have ability...

Was thinking of this myself. The offline NFSW thread is currently 440 pages long. Who has actually read each and every page apart from Berkay? Such a long and clustered thread should be whittled down, and let's say "optimised". The amount of stuff people post in there that are either repeat posts, flame wars or spam is absolutely crazy. IMO there isn't anyone more suited for the job than the actual creator of the thread, the one keeping that game and that forum alive. Plus it's not some power hungry kid, Berkay has the experience and you can see his intentions, especially after reading all the content in his thread.

I read each and every page. I need to collect information of latest stuff....
Other moderators should think about making berkay a moderator....
