First go to C: drive, then to Program Files, then to Playonline Folder, then into your Final Fantasy 11 Game folder. From their go to rom 26. From rom 26 go to file 82 and open in Notebook. Go to the Edit Menu and click Find. Type in Hoo Mjuu the Torrent. Change the Yagudo Mendicants name to the left of his name. Change it to a name that has the exact number as Yagudo (6) and Mendicant (9) (letters only). Now load the game and go to Hoo Mjuu the Torrents spot. The name you changed is the PH (Place Holder). (He pops instead of Hoo Mjuu the Torrent.) Once he pops he will have a different name now. Once he is killed add 3 hours and 25 minutes on to the Game Time (8 minutes in real life). If you are a thief you can Flee 2-3 seconds before the time he should pop. You will be able to Flee each and everytime.
(If File 82 is not the correct one just search in Rom 26 for the correct file.)
(Please remember to make a back-up file.)
Known problems:
Widescan won't work.
There will be a large gap in the text.

Here is how you can fix the "large gap" error in the text:
Instead of using Notebook to edit the file, use a hex editor and just make sure to overwrite any leftover parts of the old name with null characters (0x0). If you use Notebook, you can't enter in the null characters, which the engine is using as end of string markers and padding out until the ID.
XVI32 is freeware and decent a hex editor.
To change letters, first off, resize XVI32 until everything lines up (each line is a new mob; lines are uniform in length, so this is easy). On the left side is the hex view, and on the right is the ASCII view. Find the mob, click on the right side, and start typing. XVI32 will insert the character and move to the next 4 byte block.
To enter the null characters you'll have to click on the hex view and type 00 at the correct 4 byte block.

Are you saying he will pop every 8 minutes then?
Seems odd, one would think that was managed serverside.
Can you elaborate the whole thing with changing their names, not quite sure about it.

there is only one PH of him, by changing the name you will know exactly which yag it's the PH so you only need to kill one yagudo and by knowing PH respawns every 8 min you can get prepared for a chance that NM will pop.

was wondering, the PH for the NM in the .DAT.. is it always left of the NMs name?
for instance
Code:
wP Orcish Nightraider xP Orcish Firebelcher yP Wolf Bat zP Wolf Bat
{P Poisonhand Gnadgad |P Orcish Impaler }P Orcish Beastrider ~P Orcish Nightraider
P Orcish Brawler ?P Davoi Wasp ?P Davoi Wasp ?P Orcish Bowshooter
There's nothing left of Poisonhand Gnadgad in notepad, there's only a line above it...

EDIT: OK, to get rid of my already-answered query:
Would you be detected by GM or anyone else for changing the DAT in this way?
Say I changed Jolly Green's Goobbue placeholder from "Goobbue" to something like "Praetor" (simply because it matches the number of letters...) - would it be only me that sees "Praetor" or would a GM be able to pick up on it and suspend me?

This is no different than a dat swap, and GMs cannot detect dat swaps.
Oh, and if you use a hex editor (like the one I posted earlier in this thread) the new name doesn't have to match the number of letters in the old name.

When you do this, it does show up in chat log no? And can't GMs check your chat logs if you're fighting something and it says "Place Holder" or something you made up?

I believe when using the <t> macro, it indicates a particular memory location, which is referenced on the individual PC. So a "Yagudo Placeholder" <t> on your computer would be "Yagudo Mendicant" (or w/e the real name is).
