Ok new to these boards but wanted to help out with some stuff i actually know about* Dont use notepad, it screws up the
way the dat is and se reads it wrong hence the npc on the names. To do this i added a link for file here for u to open up
the .dat files and edit them. Make sure u make a backup of all the dat files you are going to change. The link to the Hex Editor
I use is:

You would use the Hex Editor much the same way as using Notepad. There is a Search option at the top to search for the NM
you want. After the search has found the NM's name, scroll up on the right side of the screen (in this hex editor) until you find
the placeholder's name. (in the Hex Editor the Placeholder's name is ABOVE the NM's name). Simply use the window on the
right and change the name of the Placeholder. Some mobs have 2 placeholders like leaping lizzy, make sure u change the
name of both. What does this do u might ask. Well instead of having to kill say 10 lizards at each pop, you will know which 2
are the actual placeholder by looking for the name of it by what u named them so u just have to kill those 2 instead of all 10 .
If u mess up the edit just click on file/reload (ithink) is a reload somewhere in the menu ) When it asks u to save click no and
the dat will be reopened in original form. when it is correct, save and you're done. MAKE BACKUPS FIRST!!!

bit confused, new @ this kinda stuff, but looking under south gustaberg for LL, found name

there's 4 Rock lizards above him, not the 2 you mentioned, or the PH being right above NM's name.

main question is, how do you determine the PH? post a SS or something;;

Ok resize your window in xvi32 a little so they look like mine. now search for leaping. if your window is big enough you will see
one at line 2974 and 2BA4. You can see where i renamed the placeholders to Lizzy Phold. These are the 2 placeholders for leaping. 1 pops in the lower areas of her spawns and 1 in the uppers. If you are using WS you will now see Lizzy phold or w/e u name it 2 on the repops. These are the only 2 lizzys u have to kill for her to spawn. Not every lizzy in the area. Sorry for the lack of explaining it right earlier.

Hoo Mjuu the Torrent (but I also did this to a few other mobs, just showing how it would look like if you Hex Edited)... Wish I had a picture of it messed up using notepad, so I can show all of you the difference. (before/after type of thing)

hi thanks for the Hex Editor, it helps ALOT camping Hoo Mjuu the Torrent.

I know that this changes stuff client side and that GMs shouldnt be able to detect this, but if they were to look at your chat logs, would they see the name you changed it to.. as in would they see: ******* attacks PLACE HOLDER for ** points of damage. or would they see what the name should be? anyone know?

they would see the actual name of the mob it is, but if you use <t> on the mob it says the name you changed it to. and others can see it

If you target the mob name you changed, and say <t> in /say/shout/linkshell or anywhere other people will be able to see the name you changed... for example if i named Hoo Mjuu the Torrent's placeholder HooPhold, and I targeted it , and said <t> it would say HooPhold and others would be able to see it

Anyone know if Mee Deggi the Punisher has only 1 PH? above it in the hex editor is a yagudo Interrogator, is that the sole PH?

Just a thing, can we see the renamed name on mrwildrabbit or wildescan? And also, which NM have PH?

Thank you again!

the reconfigured name will come up on widescan as so.. or it'll disable widecan from job traits. either of the two. Seeing as you havnt read the posts /sigh i wont tell you what the PH is for torrent >.>;. The answer is right infront of you afterall.

pandaonffxi, i've understood which is the PH for torrent, my question was about others NM. Is there any other NM that have a (or more) specific PH?

Like Poisonhand? There is a pic. of the list:

Thank you for the reply anyway :P

it would be best to check either allakhazam or ffxi.somepage. Just look for NMs that you know you would want to camp and read the descriptions on them. If they randomly spawn from any of the "<mob name>" then it pretty much has a placeholder.
