Website problem

I am trying to set up a website for my server, but when a friend tries to access it, he can't see the website, the page either times out or says it cannot be displayed. But I can see the site just fine on my computer.

I have port forwaded 80 on my router and McAfee fire wall, but it hasn't helped. Anyone know something that might help? I can put a picture of ports or anything if needed.

Edit: I am using wamp

Last time I remember using wamp it had a feature called "offline mode" when it only accepted connections from 127.0.0.1. Make sure you are in online mode. You can also use to check if your isp is blocking port 80 access.

When I use the port check open tool, it says "Error: I could not see your service on xx.***.***.x on port (80)
Reason: Connection timed out"

Does that mean the port is blocked? If so what should I do

Edit: The local area connection isn't used. It uses the wireless connection.

Possibly. A fast way would be to setup port triggering on your router (if it is capable of doing so). Your external port would be 8080 and your internal would be 80 pointing at your same internal ip. Then, check your site by using If your router is not capable of doing this you can change the port apache listens on by using readily available guides on the internet. If that works that means your isp blocked 80.

NEVER change your settings of your internet

if you do then you get more trouble then you think you will have
there is a change that it works , IF you got a static ip and IF you want to bypass your router

but for the rest , your ROUTER gives you your dynamic intern ip , change it and your ****

or you need to know what you are changing and i dont think you do because then you dont say that kind of stuff (i made a other reply somewhere over this )

255.255.255.255 <--- 1 ip , and need to be used if you are on lan and want to bypass router and got a STATIC ip
255.255.255.0 <--- 255 ip's = INTERN ip adress , because your router can appoint 255 differend ips , going from 192.168.1.1 (your gateway and router acces) to 192.168.1.255 (if you got 255 pc's at home and all conected to it )

so stop saying that they need to use that before they lock thereself out of the internet and start crying that they dont know how it comes ...

-----
now to answer a other question

please do those steps to be sure that your friends can conect to your computer

first install wamp ...

start wamp ( left click on it and see if it doesnt stand on offline modus or be sure there is no lock on it )

if wamp is started , then we can begin

go to your localhost ( 127.0.0.1) and see if you see a webpage
dont you see anything ?? then wamp is messed up and isnt started ... try again

now that works

lets see if your firewall/virusscanner is blocking stuff
go to your internal ip (yea , router doesnt block internal ip ... )

192.168.1.X (your internal ip)

do you get a time out ?? then your firewall is blocking , disable EVERYTHING on your computer , from virus scanners to firewalls , msn or whatever you can disable so nothing can block the conection, but leave wamp online

try again
now it shal work , doesnt it works ?? then something is still blocking your conection and then you can spend a lot of time to figure out what it is

lets say taht it works

next step

get your external ip from or any other site that shows your real ip

store that ip in a txt block for later use

go to your router and disable the firewall
in case you dont have a disable button but a button that says ... minimum , press on it

go find the DMZ button (in case your firewall says miminum then you got 99% a DMZ button)

the DMZ let you bypass your router

ok , step 2
firewall disabled , lets try to conect to your external ip

does it works ?? great everything is fine
does it not works ??
lets open some ports then

go to your tcp/udp settings (port forwarding)

and add this range in it , for TCP and UDP

1 - 64554 (just every port o.O) or just a big number like 9999 will do fine to :P

well , if that is done ,try again
and now it should works

if it doesnt works , then something els is blocking it (does a isp blocks port 80 ?? exept if your isp is providing there own website on your ip then they dont block it ^^ )

if it works , then you can start your site and game
and then you can start setting up security (only the ports that are needed and stuff)

hopes this helps you

When I do all of that it still only works for me, even with the DMZ. I can connect on my internal ip, external and using the DynDNS website. But for other people, none of it works still.

if your external ip works from your own laptop then it is fine

that means you get pass your router

and basicly if you just enable DMZ then you dont even need to do anything els

DMZ opens every single port and bypass the router for 100% (including the firewall that stands on ultra high)

its strange
if external ip works , then it works for every1

can you give me the ip you are talking about ?? then i shal see if i can do a traceroute to see what blocks it

yea , but 1 port means that it can bypass it

seems that apache is not running or so : S

because those ports are closed

or if you are 100% sure they are running ( you can see your website if you go local) then it need to be the isp

because mysql is open , and all otehr ports are open to i guess (you got DMZ :P)
so i got no clue then anymore

Eternity, have you checked your router to see if it can do the port triggering or any options in the port forwarding to pass an external port to a different internal port? (See post #4 for more info)

Yeah I tried it out, not sure if I did it right, but I tried that and with changing apache's port and using :8080 and such at the end of the address and still no luck.
