1. Go to
2. Click on Create Account then login.
3. Click on the Services Tab.
4. Click Dynamic Dns.
5. Click on Dynamic DNS Free.
6. Click Get Started.
7. Fill out Hostname, IP Address, For the last part under Remote Access For Devices i guess you could click on game server, then add to cart, and activate.
8. Your done and I guess you can edit your Hosts file?

dns and ip are 2 differend things

the thing you mean is getting a domain name (co.cc or .tk or whatever you can find) and point it to your ip

thats not dns (Domain Name Server )

just go to no-ip.com or to dyndns.com or dns.com or those things and you can get a program to run on your comp that change the domain name to your ip (your free sub domain name ^^)

Well you obviously didn't use my link otherwise you would have already found it. I will just type something out for you then.
Multiple ways:
1) Bypass your router and plug your computer directly into the modem. Run your command prompt. Type "ipconfig /all" and look for the line that says DNS Servers.
2) While connected to your router login to it's admin panel and find something along the lines of an internet connection status page and, again, look for a line that says DNS Servers.
3) Screw your ISP and use (DNS servers are in the bottom right hand corner)

You can't surf the web without a dns server otherwise you would have to memorize the IP address of every website you want to visit so we know you have one. In my post I also gave you a dns server anyone can use in #3 called open dns. Also, the first links I gave you were for domain name services.

This is what your are trying to fill in correct?

i need to denie that part

you CANT SEE A SINGLE website with out a good DNS server

do you know what dns do ??

dns = DOMAIN NAME Servers

a dns resolve a ip to a domain name or a domain name to a ip adress

why you think you need to setup your name servers to your ip of your server ??

as example
to use ns1.powerchaos.com then you need to create a subdomain to a second ip so it points to your server
and that can be done on 2 ways
or you set it up at your registrar ( so it directly points to there) or you make a sub domain called ns1 and point it to a free ip that get used as name server ip

if you dont do that then the DNS dont know where it points to and to where it need to go , solution , powerchaos.com will not work then

dns is exact the same
dns servers are servers that are conected to 1 big database that contains everything (like whois database)

so if you put your dns to localhost then it will not work , exept if your router take over the dns (they got dns build in to your isp provider)

but leaving dns emty or just putting in a random value will not work like you want it to work

if you dont know or your bad in remembering a ip adress then fill in this ip adress as dns

it cant be easyer to remember ( 4 numbers to remember isnt hard :P)

Code:
DNS1 = 8.8.8.8
DNS2 = 8.8.4.4
this are the 2 dns servers of google

to make it short
DNS is needed to resolve the domain name , els you can only work with ip adresses and thats not something you like to do ?? or are you that good in remembering ip adresses (like i need to do , i need to remember a ip adress of 50 lol)

Open the command prompt then:
Quote:
Step 3:
The command prompt may look different on your screen, but it doesn't really matter. Type ipconfig /all in that window, and then press the enter key. This will display a lot of information. If it scrolls off the top you may need to enlarge the window.

Step 4:
I want you to write down some of the information in this window. Take down the IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and Name Servers. Make sure to note which is which. We are going to use this information a little bit later. We are only concerned with IPv4 entries, you can ignore the IPv6 stuff.
If your DNS Server(s) are the same as your default gateway use the which are currently: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as your dns servers. Fill all that information into the box and you should have a static internal IP address.

@king_Arthur
wanna know a little secret that i forgot to thell ??

well , do you know why the router give you 192.168.1.X as dns server ??

the reason is kinda easy
because the router will forward it to the good dns ip adresses (settings in router)

now the secret
do you know how it comes that changing the dns server doesnt works for persones who are behind a router ??

because dns use port 53 and the firewall blocks that port
and only intern traffic is allowed by the routers firewall
so it need to be 192.168.1.X if you cant configure your router like it need to be ^^

changing the dns only apply's if you are on a vps server or not behind a router
els the router firewall will block that dns port

sorry that i forgot that small detail :S
