But probably cost just as much if not more then a dedicated one.

Try to recruit people like HellSpider, someone whos good with ASM. I like using mssql 2000, 'cuz is fast to download and easy to install and to use, 08 version takes really long to download (enterprise version) and a lot of system reqs. But good luck though

Personally, I hate 2008 all together. Its such a heavy load for a SQL server as it sits. The installer is completely idiotic and the server doesn't have much benefits over 2005. I'm personally a 2000 user due to its simplicity and excel like table format. Tho I have became to liking 2005 as well. Tho either 2005 and 2008 have database size limits. This is why every guide runs SQL 2000. Due to the database backups being over 30gb in size restored. SQL 2005 has a 4gb database size limit, and 2008 has a 8gb size limit. Tho if you striped the databases down like Zombie already has then they would work fine on either 05/08. Why didn't people do that from the start? no clue.

Post a . This is the most important for any server, even developing. Your developers/testers don't want to be lagging the entire time. Figure I would throw that out there (sounds like a home machine is why).

It is a local host, it's only for the development of the DB/server files though, the private server we will make won't be discussed here, as it is against boarde rules.
