Ubuntu 17.04 with Kubuntu ppa backports + sddm instead of lightdm. It causes some trouble to change the DE on Ubuntu (screen tearing, apps look horrible etc.) but it's kinda easy to solve them.
If you are scared of breaking up things, I'd just recommend Debian.
