I have the R7 1700, this game still lags sometimes on 2D mode. Generally you should go for Intel if you're only interested in gaming, since faster single core speed will yield better results.

but if you want other games i7 7700k :P

You don't need a high-end CPU for a game like darkorbit. The 3D mode is definitely better optimized than the 2D mode.

A ******* i3 would be working.
GPU probably plays a role as well, even if not big.
And have more than 4GB Ram.

There is no way that this game can run with 60 perfect without any laggs xD

My Spec:
got a i7-6700
with 24gb Ram
gpu: amd 380x

and still got laggs in 2d mode it runs with 25-45 fps..

Then switch to 3d mode. Like i just said it's a lot mor optimized.

u also need much ram for darkorbit.. even if you play in chrome with much plugins like adblock ect
