[Tutorial] How to ask

Hi!

I never though I had to make this tutorial, but you really need it.

Many people think that when they ask something the others are obligated to answer it and that's wrong.

Many questions are 2 words: "How fix?" and if the person is good enough in english he/she will use a verb: "How to fix?". When I see those questions I (and I bet some other developers) start loosing faith in humanity. Why? Because it seems that everyone want the code fully working and bug free and the developer as his/her personal assistan.

We (developers, not you, final users) have invest thousands of hour, tons of effort and universes of love in learning how to make the things you use (or steal...) without having to care in a SINGLE line of code because we've done the impossible to keep it bug free.

But what happens when there's a bug? All people ask those 2-3 words, and many of them don't even read other's questions, because 90% of times have been fixed. And I (and I assume EVERY developer else) don't have time (nor motivation) enough to help him/her with the bug, why? Because it they don't put enough effort in asking, and this is very important, a good question is what we see the first and indicates the IQ of the person who asks it.

We (developers, not you, final users) are always busy in updating the tool/bot/ps/whatever to fit YOUR amenitives (Google Translator's word, "comodidades" in spanish) so keep that in mind befor asking.

So... How to ask? First you need to prove you deserve the answer, how you do this? Reading the fucking manual, searching the fucking web and reading other's fucking questions.
As I said before many questions are already answered and just make nothing but more spam.
Others aren't answered but the solution is as easy as using Google (Google is the enemy, better Duck Duck Go). I remember once I released DarkOrbit Remix PS 3.0 and as I coded it under linux the path to a library was wrong, well a guy used Google and found out the solution, he also made a thread explaining how he fixed it (you can find it by searching "How to fix Manulaiko's DarkOrbit Remix PS 3.0 beta preview" or something like that).

If everyone searched the fucking web, read the fucking manual or read other's fucking question the spam in the threads would be reduced singnificantly.

If you have already searched and found nothing a simple "How fix?" won't help, you will need to provide information in what are you trying to do and what's the error, otherwhise we won't have enough time/motivation to guess the error and fix it.

And always, always and I mean always be polited and clear in your questions. A good place to learn how to ask is

In fact, there are people who only translate through translate.google.com and don't even know English (2015 and no one knows nothin' 'bout English, **** this. Where are these people living :I ).

In all seriousness though. I like the effort you put in this, it sadly isn't going to change a thing. Those people won't read this thread (which is very, very likely). They find that the easiest way to fix a problem, is by asking the person who created the program. Or just asking in general. Sadly, it is the tone and the lack of motivation (which is by all means fine) which people don't want to help them. Because it becomes too much.

Helping people is fine. But when 100 people ask the same thing? Nah. Totally understandable when they could indeed search it up. If at best (and what I usually did), is have a bookmark/selected quotes already prepared so I can just link them.

as you said like 90 times ofc, we're the developers and in my case like manulaiko everything that we made was released for free, thats the first point that doesn't let you complain about anything. In the other hand that means too that we can chose aswell who is going to use the tool or whatever, anyways we're not the ones that will be crying at the end.

Well, lets drop some of the aggressive tone out. I don't mind a discussion, but when we start using words which can easily seem as insults, it can get out of hand.

I wouldn't like to call the people who say "how fix" retarded. They aren't retarded at all. They just aren't able to speak English at a decent level. So they try and get by, by doing what they can. And at times, it annoys users.

Yes, I do agree. With people whom have problems at understanding English, this thread with the links it contains, won't be of use. Because this is quite based on English. However, there are some users which I believe can speak a decent level of English but still also try to get by doing the least amount of what they can. So, they could ask it in a decent way to get their point across.

As a part of a community, we do have to tolerate different individuals. Me, you. Fellow developer over there. The person who posts videos over here. Some are going to be annoying without a doubt. And it does depend on how we treat each member. But, little things stay. And people are more likely to help others, depending on how they style what they say.

It's no ones job to help X and Y. They don't have to do it. But, I agree that helping people, whenever possible, would be nice. But I also agree that we shouldn't feed everyone with what to do. You have to level it out.

Sadly, while many users are the users we would like to be using our products all the time, a few other users are the "retards" we're talking about, and those users are making a lot of noise, and are hard to ignore.

i had to take care about many users not able to speak english very well (because non english users) but i always tried to understand them

sometimes i use "short phrases" too because maybe i dont know very well how to argue about a specific topic
