Uridium Wars Developers' Q&A responses
In what ways do the developers plan on taking Uridium Wars in a different direction than Dark Orbit?
Uridium Wars is an adaption of Dark Orbit for the Facebook platform. Uridium Wars, however, will have a completely new set of content and features. The storyline will be rewritten and each corporation will have different abilities with new missions. We’ll also introduce a new Hangar System where you’ll be able to go to your friends’ Hangars and complete daily help-outs. New ship classes will be introduced to Uridium Wars to create a more strategic PvP experience for solo or fleet players, along with many other features in 2012. Stay tuned!
How much interaction with the community do you plan to have? For example, setting up contests or creating new events that Dark Orbit does not have.
We have big plans to help bring the community together. After what we call the “Dark Orbit migration,” we will implement global/international events. We’re planning to integrate Happy Hour, which we’re sure many players have been waiting for. We’re also working to introduce time-based mini-events, which are still in the planning stages at the moment. We really want to involve the community as much as possible, so we will add many more social features. The potential for having player-based content and events is tremendous and we’ll definitely enable that soon!
If something is released in Dark Orbit, how like is it to be released in Uridium Wars?
Though there are similarities, Uridium Wars is a completely different, standalone version of Dark Orbit. New content and features that are added to Dark Orbit will not necessarily be introduced into Uridium Wars.
What order can we hope to see things released, not how soon, but what is next?
Currently, we’re trying to finalize and build the new UI (user interface) for the Space Map together with a “full screen” mode since many players have been asking for both. The full screen will consist of a new Facebook feature called Fluid Canvas and a toggle in the settings to switch between regular mode and full screen. Other features in development include a Corporation Control Center (CCC), where players will be able to change corporations, and Pilot’s Headquarters, where you’ll have access to much more in depth information on your pilot.
Will there be a better way to add ideas other than the Update and Idea Pool thread section? Do you read and consider every post in the Update and Idea pool? If so, what sort of things do you want our creative minds to focus on?
We check forums constantly and nothing goes unnoticed. Many ideas that have been posted are already being implemented or planned for future development. We always appreciate your input about ANY aspect of the game.
Is there a certain base (or certain number to maintain) before the game gets canceled? What constitutes Uridium Wars as a success?
All of our games are unique in terms of what our expectations are. For a game like Uridium Wars, we’re confident it will perform well over time, so we’re not too concerned with what the current user base is. That said, we’re actually quite pleased with the numbers we’re seeing and have marketing plans in place to grow the community. There aren’t many “core” games on Facebook, and we’re determined to get it right.
Will there be a standalone page for Uridium Wars? Example, Farmville.com is a standalone page for the Facebook game of the same name.
Currently, we’re building Uridium Wars only for the Facebook platform, but it’s something we may consider in the future.
Will be there ever be a chance to have someone re-write the information on items/ammo? Currently, it is very confusing and misleading.
We will begin language localization in 2012. During that time, we will rewrite descriptions for the items so that they are much more clear and easy to understand.
Will ammo preference buttons be added? Will non-standard ammo ever be set up as such?
This is definitely something we can address in the future.
Will there be a better in-game beginner tutorial? For example, a complex walkthrough of the game interface showing each section.
Absolutely. The new user experience is something we take into serious consideration and will be making heavy changes. We plan to implement a Corporate Career Planner, which will help all the new and existing players define their goals within the game and help you along the way. We’re also planning to build involuntary tutorials to change the way players become familiar with the game.
When will the game stop misleading people into spending Uridium? For example, using extra energy from boxes can repair their ship. Also, new players do not know that credit ships can be repurchased.
Like all of our games, players have the option to spend money on in-game credits but can also earn Uridium through gameplay. To help address the confusion, we will refine descriptions during the localization stage of development. The Uridium Wars Bible will also be available to players in the future to get more answers.
When will the items like premium ever get accurate descriptions? Most bonuses that come with premium are unstated. Also, most new players do not know about current premium offers.
At some point we will have the in-game shop separated from the market which will help define those items more clearly.
Will packages get reworked? Some are only for starting players, and not the higher or more hardcore players.
The short answer is yes.
Will there be promotions for Uridium Wars? This will entice players to make the switch by offering items or a starting bonus so they don’t feel like they have to start over.
We’re planning to bring back Happy Hour and start new promotion events sometime in the near future.
Will there be an inactivity reminder or bonus for Uridium Wars? In Dark Orbit, there were emails sent out reminding you to log back in. After four weeks, random items were given out. Suggestion: Perhaps, to celebrate a certain update, book Uridium or something extra for all players to hopefully entice players to come up if they have left.
We currently do not send out inactivity reminders but will definitely consider it.
When will the many glitches on the space map be fixed? Is there a better way to submit bugs we find in game?
We recommend contacting support and making new posts on the forums to let us know. We constantly read them and will address the issues as quickly as possible.
When will the rest of the pirates be added?
Uridium Wars will have new NPCs added to the game, but it is currently not planned in our development cycle.
What are the chances of upgrading the support for new players? New players are being attacked and killed off in the lower areas of the space map making it difficult to progress or stay with the game.
We are working on Corporate Protection Cards (CPC), which will give new players a 48-hour protection against higher-level players. The protection will be dropped if a player attacks another player. Also, CPCs will be available on the market for purchase. We plan to release this new feature sometime near the end of this year or beginning of the next year.
How are accounts currently flagged for suspension? Players are being flagged unfairly; they have done nothing wrong and suddenly cannot play.
We check and monitor multiple criteria that include social feature exploits and using automated scripts. If you believe you have been flagged mistakenly, please contact one of the forum moderators or send in a ticket to the Support team.
Will anything be done to try and reduce lag in galaxy gates?
The lag in galaxy gates is often due to a user’s Internet connection, which can increase/decrease based on a number of factors. Also, a player’s proximity to our global data centers can also play a role in lag…the closer you are, the faster the connection. Regardless, we’re constantly trying to optimize game performance and improve the game experience.
When will special ammo such as EMP, DCR-250, RSB, uber-100, and other such ammo be able to be purchased?
Some of those items became available in Dark Orbit after we had begun development of Uridium Wars. The same items will not be available in Uridium Wars, but we plan to add new types of unique ammo.
