New achievements and 1 new title for a event, I'm guessing for winter.

Upgrade shields just as last, because that's just not worth it... So it's better to buy that formation ^^

Pincer is good for fighting if you don't mind switching formations mid-fight. If you upgrade shields then they eventually give a 15% bonus, which is much better advantage in a fight than pincer but of course will be more expensive to do them all and will take longer.
So basically do you want short-term (formation) or long-term (upgrades) improvements ^^?
