Upgrading trick question

Er I know that there is a trick on upgrading armors, that is to lower the durability of it to 0 and than up it,
but does this trick apply to all other equips too??

I heard it does, but personally I'd rather waster 30+ mets on one equip than make it go down to 0 dura.

Try accidently breaking a a super soc item
