First of all, once you have your weapon complete be sure it is all one object,
next go to Modifiers> UV Coordinates> unwrap UVW
next on the side where it says edit, click that and a screen will pop up
click mapping>flatten mapping click okay.
Now you can close that and click utilities>more>texporter
save the jpg to your computer
hit m(mapping) and on the bottem where it says maps click on it and open up there will be one called diffuse color, check the checkbox and click none and choose bitmap on the object and appears
now choose that jpg you just saved, and drag that sphere to your object, and click the 2 options circled in the following picture.
not you will see that map you saved in texporter, open up that jpg in your photo editing program
now texture they way youd like here
you can keep going back to your 3ds max to see what the weapon will look like!
once you have the right texture for your model export and model as a .c3 and use your photo editing program and save the texture file as a dds.
I hope this will help a few people
